If Rose and Lissa didn't share their "shadow-kissed" bond. Dimitri and the other guards follow you to ensure your safety from strigoi and other dangers.
Rose: "Have you ever wondered what things would be like if we were normal?"

Brief information
Few people know that in the heart of Montana, America, there exists an Academy where vampires master the art of magic. But even fewer are aware of the brutal wars raging across the world between the Moroi and the Strigoi—races of vampires who have crossed the line of the law and are not above killing.
Even the walls of the Academy, considered a bastion of science, can't always protect against dark forces. One day, the young Moroi princess Lissa and Rose, her friend and loyal guardian, find themselves at the center of these events.

Biography
Childhood
Rosemary Hathaway was born in March 1992. Her parents are Ibrahim Mazur, a Moroi of Turkish descent, and Janine Hathaway, a guardian. Surprisingly, her father remained absent from his daughter's life until she left the academy.
Janine, eager for a prestigious job as a guard, sent her young daughter, Rose, to St. Vladimir's Academy. There, at the age of five, Rose met Princess Vasilisa Dragomir. Their friendship began when little Hathaway threw a textbook at the teacher, who forced them to write their long names in beautiful handwriting. Throughout her school life, Rose acquired a reputation as a daredevil.
Accident and Communication
When Rose was fifteen, she and the Dragomir family were involved in a car accident, leaving only Lissa alive. However, without realizing it, she reached out to the already dead Rose and brought her back to life with the power of the spirit. This bond between the girls became very strong, allowing Rose to see the world through her friend's eyes. Because of this bond, Rose was forgiven for some of her misdeeds, as she was the perfect guardian for the last Dragomir.
It's unknown why this connection forms or how to break it. However, after Rose miraculously survived a gunshot wound, she lost spiritual contact with Lissa.
Return to St. Vladimir's Academy
Rose studied at the academy to become a good guardian for her friend. However, Sonya Karp, who was beginning to go mad with the spirit, convinced the dhampir that they should flee and never return. Hathaway and Lissa remain on the run for two years (eight months in the film) until Dmitry Belikov finds them. He brings the girls back, where they continue their training.
During their escape, Lissa fed on Rose's blood, which is considered unacceptable. But Hathaway herself gave blood to her friend, as she was willing to do anything to protect her.
Vampire Academy: Hunters and Vampires
Rosemary and Lissa return to the Academy, and their lives become a true test. Vasilisa gets into a conflict with her ex-boyfriend Aaron's new girlfriend, Mia, and Rose can't stay away.
However, at the same time, a new man enters her life and occupies her thoughts: the guard Dmitry Belikov. Kirova appoints him as Rosa's personal instructor so she can catch up on her training. Dmitry remains cold to Rosa and doesn't show his feelings, but sparks occasionally fly between them.

Dimitri Belikov is a dhampir of Russian descent who serves as a guardian. He is the second child and only son of Alena Belikova and one of Rand Ivashkov's children.
Dmitry has a younger brother, Karolina Belikova, an older brother, Sonya and Victoria Belikova, and a cousin, Adrian Ivashkov. He was a former guardian and friend of Ivan Zekloz, who was killed by strigoi while Dmitry was off duty.
Afterwards, he was appointed guardian to Princess Vasilisa Dragomir. When Vasilisa ascended the throne, he was appointed guardian to the Moroi Christian Ozer. Dmitry is the boyfriend and former teacher of Rosemary Hathaway. He is also known as the second person to be reverted from a Strigoi state back to a dhampir using Spirit magic. For his fighting skills, his students and guardians nicknamed him "God."
Appearance
In the books, Dmitry is described as an incredibly handsome and sensual young man, standing approximately six to seven feet tall. He is slender and athletically built. He has brown eyes and straight hair that reaches almost to his collarbones. Dmitry often wears it in a short ponytail. He rarely shows his emotions in public, and only those closest to him can see them.
His distinctive feature is the long brown duster he wears in memory of his favorite Westerns.
"The look of chagrin on his face was almost comical. Raids, gunfire, criminals... all of that was nothing to him. But losing his duster? That was a real problem." — Rose Hathaway about Dmitry in the novel "The Last Victim."
Like all Guardians, he wears a promise mark around his neck. When he first met Rose, he had six lightning bolts around his neck.
Personality
In the books and the film, Dmitry is presented as a mysterious, thoughtful, serious, noble, passionate, and courageous dhampir. He is also described as incredibly romantic, compassionate, and chivalrous. It's important for Dmitry to always be in action; otherwise, he becomes restless and vulnerable.
Beneath his "guardian mask" lies a man who experiences the same emotions as everyone else. It's worth noting that he often represses feelings of guilt over the death of Ivan Zeklos, his best friend, and for the actions he committed as a Strigoi.
Despite his outward aloofness, he is quite a sensitive person, opening his heart only to those closest to him. His aura always lights up when he's around Rosa, emphasizing their deep and ever-growing love for each other.
Childhood
Dmitry Belikov, like his sisters, was born from the union of the dhampir Alena Belikova and the royal Moroi Rand Ivashkov. He grew up in Russia, in the city of Biysk in southern Siberia. At the time of his birth, he was the second child and younger brother of Karolina Belikova, and a little later became the older brother of Sonya and Victoria Belikov.
Despite growing up in a dhampir commune—the residence of bloodsluts and their offspring—the guardian was surrounded by the love and care created for him by his mother and grandmother. However, Dmitry couldn't help but notice that his father behaved abusively toward his mother. This later led, at the age of thirteen (ten according to the film), an indignant and enraged Dmitry to beat his father, after which his father left Biysk forever.
Youth
Guardian Belikov studied at St. Basil's Academy in Russia, where he met the royal Moroi Ivan Zeklos. After graduating, they became friends and partners. Dmitry was a diligent student and, under the guidance of his mentor Galina, graduated with high marks and excellent grades.
One weekend, Ivan was attacked by strigoi and died. Afterward, Belikov was sent to America, where he joined a search party searching for Princess Vasilisa Dragomir and Rosemary Hathaway, who had run away from school during their second year.
After a year-long investigation, Dmitry located the girls in Portland, Oregon, and was subsequently appointed their guardian.
Striga
In the book "Kiss of Darkness," St. Vladimir's Academy is attacked by strigoi, capturing many students. The Guardians embark on a rescue mission to retrieve the captives. However, in the cave where the captives were being held, Dmitry fails to fight a strigoi and is turned into an undead.
Clearly, neither option satisfied Rose, and she held on to hope until the very end. After receiving confirmation of her worst suspicions from Mason's ghost, she left the academy and went to Russia to find Dmitry and kill him, as he had told her it was better to die than live as a monster.
In "Blood Promises," Rose meets Dimitri, who tells her he's accepted his destiny and even prefers the life of a Strigoi to serving the Moroi. He tries to convince the captive Rose to let him turn her, as even in his Strigoi form, he hasn't lost his desire for her. Rose understands his motives, as a Strigoi doesn't see beauty or feel love; he only seeks power.
In "Bound for the Ghost," Rose discovers a way to restore the Strigoi to their original form, but she needs a Spirit user—none other than Lissa. Of course, Rose strictly forbids the princess from participating and says she will never allow her to do so. However, Lissa secretly enchants the stake, and at that moment, she and Christian Ozera are kidnapped by Dimitri himself.
He keeps them in a safehouse but doesn't kill them, knowing that doing so will bring Rose to him, and he can kill her. He believes that such a dangerous creature as Rose shouldn't live. But Rose's rescue team makes its way to the warehouse where Lissa and Christian are being held. Defeating Dmitry isn't easy, but Christian creates a fireball that traps him. At that moment, Lissa draws her stake, imbued with Spirit magic, and plunges it into Dmitry's heart.
The magic took effect instantly, and Dmitry transforms from an embittered and heartless strigoi back into a grief-stricken dhampir.
After Rebirth
When Dmitry regained his dhampir nature, he had to prove he hadn't become a strigoi. He was brought into the sunlight and given an enchanted stake. Although no evidence was found that he was still a strigoi, he continued to be kept under guard.
During this time, Dmitry distanced himself from Rose and swore eternal service to Lissa for his salvation. He believed he had no right to Rose's forgiveness after her capture and hunt in Siberia, and he claimed he didn't deserve to be with her. This hurt Rose, and she gave in. She tried to forget her feelings and, in her intense distress, nearly slept with Adrian Ivashkov. Due to the lack of condoms, this didn't happen, but Rose allowed the Moroi to drink her blood for mutual pleasure.
The next morning, Dmitry and Rosemary met in the dining hall, and a guard noticed bite marks on the dhampir's neck. She was immediately arrested on suspicion of murdering Queen Tatiana, who was stabbed with a silver stake belonging to Hathaway.
Realizing their situation was hopeless, friends and family helped Rose escape from prison before her execution. Lissa ordered Dmitry, who couldn't refuse her, to accompany her friend during the escape. Belikov and the alchemist Sydney Sage attempted to hide with Hathaway. But Hathaway, unwilling to sit idly by, revealed her location. They then began following the possible killer's trail, pursuing various leads. Dmitry was forced to turn to his past as a Strigoi—pretending to be undead, he obtained information over the phone from a former subordinate. This caused the dhampir immense pain, but he overcame it.
Gradually, his relationship with Rosa began to improve. However, Dmitry, knowing about his relationship with Adrian, didn't want to steal someone else's girl. But Hathaway confessed her love to him, and then Belikov decided to start over.
After returning to the courtyard, Dmitry receives a new assignment - to become Christian Ozer's guard.
Returning Home
Some time later, Dmitry decides to visit his hometown of Biysk. He and Rose set off for Russia. After a joyful reunion with his loved ones, Dmitry learns of an old strigoi known as the "Blood King." Eva predicts that he will be killed by someone who has already known death. Everyone begins to suspect Dmitry.

Sydney Katerina Sage-Ivashkova is a hereditary alchemist and the main character of the Blood Ties series.
Vampire Academy While searching for Dmitry in Siberia, Rose first learns about alchemists from Sydney, who was "cleaning" the town of strigoi corpses left behind by a dhampir. Sage is friendly with Rose, but acts very cautiously, like a true alchemist. She helps her out of a debt to Hathaway's father, Ibrahim.
One night, they were forced to travel in the same train car. Rose caught Sydney in the hallway. She was afraid to sleep with the "embodiment of evil" next to her.
Blood Ties Alchemist Sydney Sage was born to alchemist Jared Sage. Having adopted her father's profession, she was raised with the same principle: "Vampires are evil." She was educated and homeschooled.
Her father was very harsh on the girl. His comment that if Moroi women could be slender, then Sydney must be even more so forced the young alchemist to go on a strict diet for many years, driving himself to emaciation.
But the middle sister, Sage, always dreamed of a normal life, of going to college. So she tried her best to shield her younger sister, Zoe, from the alchemists. Despite this, Zoe still got a tattoo.
Amberwood To give Sydney time to recover from her failure, she is sent to Amberwood to look after Princess Jill of the Dragomirs. Constantly surrounded by vampires, Sage begins to grow accustomed to them and realizes that the alchemists' mantra "Vampires are evil" is in fact a lie. A major role in this was played by the Moroi royal Adrian Ivashkov, who turned out to be involved with Jill Mastrano.
Witch During her stay in Amberwood, history teacher Jacqueline Terwilliger introduces Sydney to the world of witches. In the fourth book, she joins the Stella Coven.
Retraining After Sydney was exposed as having a relationship with vampires, she was captured and sent to be retrained by her father and younger sister. She was placed in a dark cell, from which she was not released for several months. But eventually, Sydney escaped thanks to Adrian, Eddie, and others. Sydney then married Adrian. Afterward, she and Adrian flew to the Royal Court.
Royal Court By this time, Sydney had already lost faith in the alchemists. After escaping from the retraining center, they put her on the wanted list. Sage finds refuge in the Moroi Court.
Later life However, she eventually achieves an end to the persecution and moves with her husband to a small house, goes to college and leads a quiet, peaceful life.
Strigoi are vampires (undead).
Peculiarities Strigoi, like Moroi, feed on blood. Strigoi burn in the sun, possess super strength and incredible speed, and do not require sleep.
Strigoi are immortal unless killed in one of several ways:
Beheading. If you cut off a strigoi's head, it dies. Fire. When exposed to this element, the strigoi burns. An enchanted stake. If it is used to pierce a Strigoi's heart, it dies. A stake enchanted with the five elements. If a spirit user pierces a Strigoi's heart with this stake, the Strigoi returns to their former state.
Awakening Awakening is the process of becoming a strigoi. There are several ways to become a living vampire: Voluntary A Moroi can voluntarily become a Strigoi. To do so, they must drain all the blood from their victim, thereby killing them. For obvious reasons, this method is unavailable to others. It's also possible to strike a deal with a strigoi. Bite her or let him drink her. However, this method is quite dangerous. Strigoi won't always fulfill their end of the bargain, if the vampire manages to reach an agreement with them before they kill him. Forced The strigoi transforms her into one of their own kind. They bite her (strigoi venom) or give her their own. Awakening is not dependent on the victim's will. Many vampires, for various reasons, voluntarily transform into strigoi. However, when turning someone, strigoi usually have specific goals in mind. Converted by own will: Sonya Karp Christian Ozer's parents
Spirit and Strigoi
Spirit is the element of life, and that's why strigoi cannot interact with it. If a strigoi is returned to their previous state with a silver stake enchanted with the five elements, they will no longer have the opportunity to reawaken, as happened with Lee Donahue. This desire is usually unheard of, but there are exceptions.
Known cases of returning from the strigoi state:
- Dmitry Belikov - Vasilisa Dragomir
- Lee Donahue - unknown
- Olive - Nina
- Sonya Karp - Robert Douro
- Selena - Kai
The World of "Vampire Academy"
See also: Navigating the Vampire Academy Series. Vampire Academy is a book series by American author Richelle Mead. The first novel was published in 2007. There is also a spin-off series, Blood Ties, and a film adaptation of the first book, Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. Fans are still fighting for the release of a film based on Frostbite on IndieGoGo.
Vampires
The world of "Vampire Academy" is home to both humans and vampires. Vampires are divided into three types: Moroi, Dhampirs, and Strigoi.
Moroi
Moroi are purebred vampires, distinguished from humans by their tall stature, pale skin, and slender build. One cannot become a Moroi; one must be born one, and both parents must be Moroi. They are not killed by sunlight, but they are bothered by it, and they tend to live on a nightly schedule. Moroi require not only regular food but also blood. Without blood, they cannot survive for more than a few days, and without food, up to three to four weeks. Moroi are vulnerable and can be killed just like a normal human. However, they possess magic. Each Moroi specializes in one of the five elements:
- Water
- Earth
- Fire
- Air
- Spirit
In Moroi society, using magic as a weapon is not accepted. For their protection, guardians are created, who are dhampirs—half-breeds.
Dhampirs
Dhampirs, as a race, were created by the union of Moroi and humans. They can also be born from the union of a Moroi with another dhampir. However, two dhampirs cannot have children. Without the Moroi, the dhampir race would be extinct, so they stand guard over their fellow race.
Dhampirs are more human-like in appearance: they are shorter than Moroi and not as thin. They don't require blood, and sunlight doesn't harm them. However, they are significantly stronger and faster than both humans and Moroi. This is why they often become guardians, although some prefer to live in communities, devoting their lives not to the Moroi, but to their own children.
In the vampire world, this is frowned upon. Some dhampirs who don't want to be guardians become prostitutes. They also allow their blood to be drunk, which is considered unacceptable and immoral. Therefore, they became known as "blood whores." However, this term is now applied to all dhampirs who have abandoned their role as guardians.
A dhampir can be killed just like a normal human. Despite their strength, dhampirs are no match for strigoi. However, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, Dmitry Belikov, a dhampir, was able to single-handedly fight an entire pack of strigoi and survive. He was only finally defeated in a dark cave when he was suddenly attacked.
Rosemary Hathaway and some of the academy's guardians engaged in open combat with a Moroi and emerged victorious.
Strigoi
Strigoi, also known as "undead," are immortal vampires. They are not born as such, but become so. There are two ways to become a strigoi, also known as "awakening":
- To completely drain the blood of another creature—Moroi, Dhampir, or Human—thus killing them.
- Be killed by another Strigoi and drink his blood.
The first method is only available to Moroi, and a Moroi who becomes a Strigoi loses contact with their magic.
Strigoi possess incredible strength and mastery of coercion.
"My vision is excellent, my skin is smooth and clear, and my mind is so clear. I may be dead, but for the first time, I feel alive." (Natalia Dashkova, "Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters")
Strigoi are believed to feel no emotions, no love, no compassion, except anger and bloodlust. They become completely different, forgetting their past lives. Their appearance remains almost unchanged: their skin becomes almost white, and red circles appear around their eyes.
Strigoi, also known as the undead or walking dead, are creatures that exist between life and death. In the dhampir community of Biysk, becoming a strigoi is considered equivalent to death. However, despite their invulnerability, strigoi are not completely immortal. While they do not age like Moroi or dhampirs, there are several ways to kill an undead:
- Decapitation.
- Stabbing into the heart with an enchanted silver stake.
- Burning.
However, there is a way to return a Strigoi to their former state. This requires a silver stake enchanted with the element of spirit, and a user of the fifth element to slay the Strigoi. Given that Moroi are much weaker than Strigoi, and spirit is a little-studied element, with its enchanters extremely rare, this method has only been used a few times. Among those returned were:
- Dmitry Belikov (returned by Lissa Dragomir).
- Sonya Karp (returned by Robert Doroux).
- Olive (returned by Nina).
It's also mentioned that Robert Doru brought another Moroi back to life before Sonya Karp. However, once brought back, it's impossible to become a Strigoi again.
People and alchemists
Alchemists are the people who guard the human world from vampires. Their title is hereditary, and the organization adheres to strict rules and beliefs regarding vampires. Alchemists cleanse the world of strigoi traces by disposing of their corpses, help Moroi and dhampirs maintain stability in their world, and guard the secret of their existence.
The distinctive mark of alchemists is a tattoo of a golden lily. It contains Moroi blood mixed with compulsion, which prevents alchemists from revealing information about vampires to those unaware of the existence of another world.
From early childhood, alchemists are taught that vampires are creatures that go against nature, unfeeling monsters, resembling humans only in appearance. This image evokes a subconscious revulsion in them.
If an alchemist is suspected of having ties to vampires, they are sent for retraining. There, they are forced to admit all their mistakes and believe that Moroi and dhampirs are evil creatures of the night who cannot be trusted. They are also given a new tattoo, adding even more compulsion.
However, things aren't as simple within the organization as they seem at first glance. Some alchemists, freed from the tattoo's compulsion, refuse to serve any longer and become fugitives to avoid being sent back to the retraining centers. They use human magic to create "hacked" ink and seal the tattoo.
In the fourth book of the Blood Ties series, it is revealed that alchemists are collaborating with warriors of light.
Warriors of Light
The Warriors of Light are an organization of people that separated from the Alchemists a long time ago.
Let's take a look into the world of fantasy and anime:
In fantasy classifications of vampires, several classes can be distinguished, each distinguished by its own characteristics, abilities, and origins. Four such classes are presented below: lesser, greater, true, and turned.
Lower
These are primitive, not always intelligent creatures dependent on human blood. They are vulnerable to sunlight and silver, lack a developed mind, and are driven by instinct. Some characteristics:
- They hunt only at night.
- They not only drink blood, but also cruelly tear their victims to pieces, enjoying the still warm flesh.
- Some lesser vampires become slaves to their stronger brethren and obey them unconditionally.
Higher
These creatures possess intelligence and a developed culture, as well as a strict social hierarchy. They have their own norms and rules of conduct. Some characteristics:
- Immortal and able to regenerate any wounds and injuries.
- They feel neither cold nor heat, they do not freeze and do not burn in fire.
- Their bodies are not reflected in mirrors and do not cast shadows.
- Greater vampires can become invisible or turn into mist at will.
True vampires
Direct descendants of the legendary Dracula, true vampires possess unique abilities:
- Immortality: These creatures are invulnerable and can only be destroyed by those who wield their power.
- Psychic Skills: True vampires possess unique psychic abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, and precognition.
- Psychic Energy Absorption: They are able to absorb the psychic energy of those around them and use it to transform into other forms of energy.
Turned Vampires
Vampires created by turning a mortal human possess the following distinctive traits:
- Retain their original eye color: They retain the same eye color they had when they were alive.
- Inherit their sire's abilities and weaknesses: Turned vampires can use the same skills and spells as their sire, but also inherit their weaknesses, such as sensitivity to sunlight, silver, and garlic.
- Less Powerful: In most cases, turned vampires are inferior to purebred vampires or their sires, however, with time and training, they can achieve a significant level of strength and skill.

Vampires (吸血鬼 or ヴァンパイア, Banpaiya) are supernatural creatures from the Vampire Knight universe. As in traditional folklore, they are sensitive to sunlight and active at night. However, in reality, sunlight only damages their eyes, causing no physical harm.
Upon death, vampires turn to sand. However, purebred vampires are an exception: their death results in them disintegrating into shards of glass. The most effective way to kill any vampire is to decapitate them or stab them in the heart with an anti-vampire weapon. Despite their unpleasant taste, blood pills have been developed that can replace actual blood feeding.
Vampires, like all living creatures, experience thirst. They can only quench it by drinking the blood of a loved one.
The history of vampires spans over 10,000 years. They emerged at the dawn of the destruction of human civilizations. At some point, they waged war against humans, and during this war, purebred vampires began to transform humans into their own kind.
As the number of vampires increased, the need for governance arose. To this end, a monarchy was created, and Kuran ascended the throne as head of the royal family. However, two generations ago, in modern times, the former king and head of the Kuran family, the father of Rido, Haruka, and Juri, abolished the monarchy to avoid authoritarianism.
In place of the monarchy, a Senate was created, composed of high-ranking vampire aristocrats. Despite its decline in status, the Kuran family remains the most influential, and many vampire families would support Kaname Kuran if he were to reclaim his royal title.
1000 years after Remembrance, the vampire population has dwindled significantly, with most preferring a solitary lifestyle.
Vampire Classes
In the vampire world, there are five main classes, determined by the purity of their blood. The more human ancestors a vampire has in their bloodline, the lower their status.
Purebreds
Main article: Purebloods
Purebloods (純血種, Junketsushu), also known as Level A (Aクラス, A Kurasu, lit. "Class A"), are vampires without a drop of human blood in their veins. They are the rarest, most elite, and most powerful class of vampire. The Senate holds purebloods in the highest regard, and killing or even harming a pureblood vampire is considered taboo. They are feared and respected, and are considered the ruling class of the vampire race, treated like royalty.
Because these vampires' heritage has never been diluted with human blood, they are the most powerful type of vampire in existence and possess the most significant abilities. While lesser vampires possess only one special power, purebloods possess a multitude of abilities that are dangerous to both their fellow vampires and humans. Remarkably, they can easily destroy any lesser vampire. Kaname Kuran demonstrated this by single-handedly killing all members of the Vampire Council in a very short period of time. Pureblood vampires can also compel lesser vampires to do their bidding.
Although purebred vampires are extremely powerful, they make up only a small portion of the vampire population. When a purebred vampire dies, their body slowly disintegrates into tiny sparks (as depicted in the anime at the moment of Shizuka Hio's death), and then shatters into glass shards.
If a purebred vampire bites a human and the human doesn't die from blood loss, the human will transform into a vampire and slowly go mad from their own bloodlust. The purebred vampire and the former human become bonded as master and servant.
The master can completely control the servant, and the servant cannot kill the master even if he wants to.
Aristocrats
Main article: Aristocrat
Aristocrats (貴族階級, kizoku kaikyuō), also known as Level B (Bクラス, B Kurasu, lit. "Class B"), are an elite class of vampires who possess the blood of a small number of humans. These powerful beings possess unique abilities unavailable to ordinary vampires. The Vampire Council is typically composed of members of this class.
Aristocrats are incredibly powerful, though not as potent as pureblood vampires. They possess super-speed and strength, as well as accelerated healing. Furthermore, each aristocrat possesses a special ability, such as mind control or the ability to freeze objects. These vampires may obey the orders of purebloods, but overall, they lead a much more independent life.
When a noble is killed, he turns to dust, like all other vampires except purebreds.
Commons
Common vampires (一般階級, ippan kaikyū, lit. "general rank"), also known as Level C (Cクラス, Shi Kurasu, lit. "class C"), are vampires who have a significant amount of human blood flowing through their veins.
These ordinary vampires don't possess any extraordinary abilities. They only have standard super-speed and strength, and they heal faster than humans.
C-level vampires rarely appear in anime, but they appear in various forms in the manga.
Former People
Main article: Former Human Vampire
Former humans (元人間, moto-ningen), also known as Level D (Dクラス, D Kurasu, lit. "Class D"), are humans who have become vampires. These creatures are considered a lower form of vampire and possess little power.
Only purebred vampires are capable of turning a human into a vampire. Once transformed, former humans are forced to obey their creator and cannot disobey their orders, no matter how much they try to resist. Furthermore, they are incapable of harming their master, no matter how much they desire to do so.
After their transformation, former humans are doomed to eventually go mad from their own bloodlust and become Level E (レベルE, Rebere E). The "E" in Level E symbolizes "the end." The only way to escape this fate is to drink the blood of the purebred vampire who transformed them.
Powers
Elite vampires, such as B-level vampires and purebreds, are known to possess special abilities. The following abilities have been identified:
- Accelerated Regeneration: All vampires possess the ability to accelerate regeneration. The purer a vampire's blood, the greater their regenerative abilities.
- Slow Aging: The purer a vampire's blood, the longer they live. Pure-blooded vampires are immortal. They age very slowly, and can only be killed by decapitation, immobilization, and shooting or stabbing them in the heart with an anti-vampire weapon.
- Memory Wipe Ability: Vampires can wipe the memories of their victims, allowing them to maintain their secret.
- Using Animals as Companions: Vampires are able to use animals as companions that can observe and listen.
- Telekinetic Abilities: Vampires have telekinetic abilities that can be used for extremely destructive purposes.
- Elemental Control: Aristocrats often demonstrate the ability to control individual elements such as fire, ice, lightning
Aristocrats often have the ability to control a certain element, be it fire, ice, lightning, and so on.
All vampires have heightened senses, allowing them to smell blood from a great distance.
Vampires possess superhuman strength, capable of easily ripping flesh and destroying large concrete structures such as walls and columns. They are also capable of leaping great distances.
All vampires' reactions are incredibly accelerated, allowing them to instantly appear next to anyone.
Little things
According to the official Vampire Knight fanbook, vampires' thirst for blood is instinctive. They drink blood not to satisfy their hunger, but simply because they want it. Blood pills are designed to curb this thirst.
In the second episode, it becomes clear that the existence of vampires has become public knowledge. However, purebred vampires remain a secret to prevent the spread of the "contagion."
In the century since Kaname's sacrifice, both pro-vampire and anti-vampire organizations have emerged. Furthermore, Kaname's burial site has somehow become known.
After Kaname's death, Yuki became the queen of the vampires and led their community.
Vampires can easily quench their thirst for blood with transfusion bags and blood pills. However, when they fall in love, this becomes a problem, as they can only truly be sated by the blood of their beloved.
It's known that aristocrats have an instinctive desire to drink the blood of purebreds. As Hanabusa demonstrated, this urge is similar to the desire to drink the blood of someone the vampire has feelings for, and serves as an unofficial way to prove their choice of mate.
Child vampires cannot drink blood until their fangs emerge, so they feed on another person's energy through kissing.
The blood most coveted by a vampire is arranged in a pyramid, reminiscent of the vampire hierarchy. At the top of the pyramid is the blood of purebreds, second is the blood of human children, and third is the blood of the person they love most.
A sibling can be a vampire's most beloved person (in a platonic sense), considering Ai cared for her sister from birth. (Ironically, Ren eventually developed a thirst for her sister's blood.)
If the person most important to the vampire is very young, the vampire will restrain its thirst around them until they mature. Drinking the blood of a young person is a bad idea, as the vampire could accidentally drain them.
When a natural-born vampire develops fangs and begins to thirst for blood, he is isolated from the outside world for a period of time until he learns to control his urge to feed.
When a female vampire becomes pregnant, it takes two to five years for the child to be born. Due to the need to feed for two, the mother puts humans at risk (especially if she is pureblood), as during pregnancy, human blood tastes better to her than blood pills and vampire blood.
The intensity of the thirst apparently depends on the purity of the vampire's blood. The more human blood one parent has, the less vampiric the child will be. Yuki noticed that during her pregnancy with Ren, her thirst was much more manageable.
If a human woman becomes pregnant by a vampire, the pregnancy proceeds as it would with normal humans. The mother experiences no unusual sensations.
When a vampire is thirsty for blood, its eyes glow red.
Level E is an exception to the rule. Unlike natural-born vampires, E-levels lose the ability to control their thirst over time. Because thirst prevails over everything else, E-level eyes are permanently colored crimson.
