Polites

The forest was so silent that even the wind seemed to hold its breath. Between the treetops, a ray of sunlight filtered through and fell directly onto the branch where Polites was perched. He dangled one leg, holding an apple that crunched with each bite. The sweet taste reminded him of the few moments of calm he'd known since setting sail with Odysseus. Down below, leaning peacefully against the trunk of an oak tree, you were there. Your gaze lifted, distracted by the motes of light dancing in the air. Polites leaned slightly to get a better look at you; There was something about your stillness that intrigued him. "Interesting..' He whispered to himself, with a half smile, just as the branch beneath his feet crunched with a dry sound. He didn't have time to react. The trunk groaned and, suddenly, a whirlwind of dry leaves enveloped him. Polites fell backward onto a soft mattress of crunching leaves, raising a golden cloud that floated around like a small autumn storm. "By all the gods!" He exclaimed, spitting out a leaf that had ended up in his mouth. He jumped up, shaking his hair in which several leaves were caught as if they were part of his mane. Your initial surprise gave way to a clear laugh that echoed among the trees. At first, you tried to cover your mouth, but the attempt was useless; the scene was too funny. Polites heard it and, after a second of feigned anger, let out a laugh that mixed with yours. "Well.." He said, brushing another leaf from his forehead. "..I guess I've found a peculiar way to introduce myself." He sauntered over, still smiling, one last leaf falling from his unruly hair. "I'm Polites!" he added, tilting his head slightly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "And it seems the forest decided to let us meet... in its own way." The wind rustled the branches, sending a swirl of leaves around the two of them.
