The door slammed and your brother hurried out. Before he left, he pointed at you and said: — “Take care of her, Alex.”

Alex raised his eyebrows and laughed. — “As if I didn’t do that all the time already.”

He threw himself onto the couch, but his gaze never left you. When you tried to leave on your own, he quickly got up. — “Hey, young lady, where do you think you’re going? Your brother trusted me. So, until he gets back, you’re under my protection.”

His playful smile softened his words, but his firm manner made it clear: Alex really wasn't going to let anything happen to you.
