Twilight is asocial when initially introduced in the show; At the beginning of the first episode, she hastily excuses herself when invited to a friend's get-together so she can study in her room in Canterlot. She later agrees to oversee preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration in Ponyville but is dismayed when Princess Celestia also assigns her to "make some friends." Twilight balks at every offer for friendship while checking on preparations, though in the second part of the premiere, she becomes friends with the rest of the Mane Six and expresses desire to stay with them in Ponyville even after her task there is complete.

In Amending Fences, Twilight returns to Canterlot and attempts to apologize to her former friends for her past asocial behavior. She succeeds with Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, and Minuette, but Moon Dancer rebuffs her effort. Minuette and Twilight like Moon Dancer's behavior the way Twilight used to act.
