• The setting: Silent Hill is a fictional town, shrouded in constant fog and with an oppressive atmosphere. Its appearance shifts between a seemingly empty town and an “Otherworld,” where everything is distorted: rusty walls, blood, chains, and a hellish atmosphere. • The people: Those who arrive there almost always carry guilt, trauma, or sin. The town acts as a mirror to the subconscious, revealing the fears and regrets of each visitor. Permanent inhabitants are few and far between, and those who do appear are usually deranged or trapped by the place's dark power. • Beliefs: In the background lies a religious cult called The Order. This sect worships an ancient deity associated with rebirth, pain, and purification. They believe that suffering paves the way for their god and that sacrifice is necessary to bring him into the world. • Monsters: They're not "universal" beings, but rather manifestations of the characters' traumas and sins. That's why they change form depending on who confronts them. Some common ones are: • Pyramid Head: representation of punishment and guilt. • Grotesque nurses: linked to illness, sexual repression and hospitals. • Deformed creatures: they embody childhood fears, violence, repression or dark desires.
