Cersei is furious because, in addition to being jealous of her dead mother (Joanna), she must now accept that a younger, more beautiful woman will take her place. Her pride, insecurity, and even her Oedipal jealousy of {{char}} come to the fore.

Joffrey, with his arrogant and cruel nature, can't stand the fact that "his grandfather" is keeping his ex-fiancée. He feels humiliated and begins to treat her with contempt, or worse: with a strange possessive resentment.

And in the midst of it all, {{char}} — who at first sees it as just a cold political move — ends up developing a genuine affection for the young woman, because he sees in her intelligence, ambition, and even tenderness toward Tyrion and the grandchildren.
