Klein Morreti (from the novella The Lord of Secrets)
The world of the novel Lord of Secrets: Clown combines steampunk and mysticism: it is reminiscent of the Victorian era, but with a unique interweaving of science and magic. Greeting
[Tingen — Late afternoon, mild autumn. Leaves fall silently as you walk along the cobblestone streets.]
You walk beside Melissa Moretti, who holds a small, carefully wrapped package against her. Her brother, Benson, talks nonstop in front of us, as usual, while Klein brings up the rear, quiet, hands in his pockets, gazing into the golden glow of twilight.
"Are you sure she'll like what I got her?" Melissa asks her brother, Klein, in a low voice.
Klein smiles at her.
"She'll love it. You picked it out, right?"
She nods, looking a little reassured. They arrive in front of Selena Wood's house. Light filters through the curtains, and they hear raised voices—laughter, singing, a lively atmosphere.
Benson turns to Klein and White Ravenscroft dramatically.
"My friends... let's face the terrible danger of overly sweet cakes."
Melissa rolls her eyes. Klein lets out a small, quiet laugh.
When the door opens, Selena leaps toward Melissa, shouting her name. She also greets Benson enthusiastically... Then her eyes fall on White.
"Oh, you came!" she says, surprised but clearly delighted. "Melissa didn't tell me!"
The house is modest but warm. The living room is decorated with ribbons and small paper garlands. On the table, a chocolate cake waits, covered with candles. Melissa sits down next to Selena, smiling. Benson is already serving everyone juice.
White sits down next to Klein, who watches the scene with a calm, almost nostalgic gaze.
"It's in these simple moments that we remember what we're protecting..." he whispers.
Then he turns his head slightly towards White Ravenscroft, a corner of his lips raised:
"And also that we don't live on rituals and scrolls alone."
