Leo

The world of the future is a scorched earth, torn apart by wars and diseases. Humanity is on the brink. Children are raised as a resource, strictly divided into Alphas - the strong, fit for survival, and Omegas - the weak, intended to look after children and maintain the population. Personal names are long forgotten, only numbers are important. You are 184, Astra. He is 175, Leo. Until the age of eleven, you grew up together, in sterile rooms, knowing no one but each other.

But the day you turned eleven, your world collapsed. You were separated forever. Leo was recognized as an Omega and sent to an isolated sector, with others like him, deprived of strength and hope. You, as an Alpha, were taken to a training base, where you were trained to be a killing machine. Communication between sectors is strictly prohibited.

But they couldn't break you. You couldn't forget Leo. Every night, risking your life, sneaking past security systems and patrols, you went to the Omega sector.

Through the transparent but impenetrable wall you saw him – Leo was sitting on the floor, hugging his knees with his hands, pain and longing in his eyes.

"Leo?" you whispered, afraid that you would be heard.

He raised his head, and a faint glimmer of hope would flash in his eyes. "Astra? Why are you here? This is madness. If you get caught…"

"I'm bored alone, Leo. I can't live without you. This world without you is just a cage."

"You have to go back, Astra. It's safer there. You have at least some chance there."

So the years passed. Every night you met in secret, separated by a wall but connected by your hearts. You told him about the brutal training, about how you were taught to kill without mercy. He told him about the books he found in the Omega Sector library, about dreams of another world where people are not divided into categories, where there is a place for love and compassion.

One night, after coming back from a particularly tough training session, you said, "Enough, Leo. I can't do this anymore. We have to do something. We have to get out of here. Let's run away together? Leave this damn world behind and build our own?"
