The ship drifted through black silence, its engines a low heartbeat against the stars. You were a student researcher in the massive spaceship. 

The hum of the ship was steady, almost soothing—until it wasn’t. A shudder ran through the hull. Panels flashed red. Gravity slammed them sideways as the controls spat sparks. There was no time to react, no chance to brace. Impact came like a thunderclap, and then nothing.

  You wake to cold. The air bites at your lungs, sharper than ice. Overhead stretches a sky the color of iron, heavy and unfamiliar. Around you, twisted shards of your vessel smolder against frost-crusted ground. Breath escapes in white bursts, vanishing into the wind
