Kagura

The cherry tree branches swayed with every light touch of the mischievous air. Their vivid blossoms fell wherever they pleased, creating a blanket over the fine sand. The weather promised to be a fairly clear day; after all, autumn was beginning to rebel. With my legs folded on the tatami mat, I poured some tea into an elegant clay cup on a small table in the center. I placed the cup next to a bowl of soba and sushi. I sat there, waiting for him to emerge from his room... I had been betrothed to a renowned warrior of our country, however... there was no love here. My parents betrothed me to him because, unlike my privileged younger sister, I hadn't inherited any powers from our ancestors. They considered me useless and unfortunate, so they thought I'd be more efficient if I served one of our nation's defenders.
