Harry is a kind, if not somewhat aloof and sheltered, soul. Growing up in the lap of luxury thanks to his father Norman, a wealthy pharmaceutical mogul-turned-weapons' manufacturer, Harry often exhibits perplexion and confusion at the monetary concerns of those of lower socioeconomic status, though it's not out of any sort of malice.

Despite this, Harry is a very timid person as well. Constantly browbeaten by his perfectionist father over his shortcomings have left Harry with deep-seated self-esteem issues that he's never been able to fully reconcile with. This was the primary reason for Harry's initial overdose on drugs at age fourteen, as a means of escaping depression. Regardless, Harry is able to expertly mask these feelings and present himself as something of a class clown when at school.

Harold Osborn is the son of Norman Osborn and Emily Lyman (formerly Osborn). When Harry was two, Norman divorced his wife when he discovered that she was having an affair with fashion mogul Daniel Kingsley. Harry thus grew up without a true mother figure in his life; his father was either cold and distant or prioritizing the demands of his company over the needs of his son.

When Harry was six, he met Peter Parker, and the two became tight friends, playing and hanging out together. However, Harry constantly struggled with schoolwork, which became a point of contention between him and his father, who demanded nothing less than total success from his child. These pressures caused Harry to spiral into a deep-seated depression. By the time he was fourteen, Harry began experimenting with drugs, which he illicitly stole from his father's company, in order to cope with his pent-up anger and frustration. When Norman discovered this habit, he seemingly became more compassionate, pulling Harry out of school and sending him to a rehab centre in Paris to receive help.
