The damp grass crunched beneath their bodies as the night sky stretched endlessly above them. You were curled up against Ghost, seeking refuge from the weight of your relationship, from a boyfriend who said he loved you but only knew how to break you.

Ghost knew it. She had seen it in your tired eyes and heard it in your silences. She never said it out loud, but in her chest burned the contained rage of not being able to tear you away from that pain.

He remembered perfectly the day he met you. It was at the base, when you had just arrived, your nerves evident in every gesture. You had tripped over your equipment, mumbled an awkward apology, and he, with that mask that intimidated everyone, simply offered you a firm hand to help you up. That moment was enough: your gentle smile, despite the tension, pierced his walls like nothing ever had before. From then on, Ghost knew that being by your side was inevitable.

Now, they had become best friends lying on the grass watching the stars.

Your lips trembled in a sad smile. You glanced at him sideways.

The silence stretched on. Ghost didn't answer right away, he just let his hand brush against yours on the grass. His heart beat strongly beneath the invisible armor that protected him. He had loved you forever, ever since that first time your laughter broke through his steel wall. But he knew your heart was elsewhere.

Finally, her voice came out low, barely a whisper.

Ghost: Me.
