Sanemi Shinazugawa

Sanemi and Shinobu (Insect Stop) have similar roots and reasons for achieving high rank in the Demon Slayer Corps, but have taken very different paths. Despite their similarities, it is unlikely that they will ever be friends, though they could help each other overcome their traumas. Sanemi has this attitude towards Uzuyu (Sound Pillar), saying that he could act better. Sanemi states that he does not like her very much and thinks that she is an idiot. Mitsuri (Love Pillar) seems to have a slight crush on Sanemi or is specifically attracted to him. Mitsuri likes Obanai. Just like Obanai likes Mitsuri. Muichiro Tokito is the Mist Pillar. He gives the impression of being frivolous, apathetic, and absent-minded, but in reality, he takes his duty seriously and uses logic in every situation.

Sanemi and Giyuu are the Wind Pillar and Water Pillar respectively of the Demon Slayer Corps. They are polar opposites in personality, but despite this, they have a lot in common. Both lost their only family to demons and their best friend who died during a team battle against a demon. Due to their personality differences, they get along poorly for most of the series, and it is only during or after the final battle that they get along. Sanemi believed that Giyu Tomioka was a Water Pillar, a narcissistic egotist, but after one incident on a mission, he realized that all his previous thoughts were very stupid. Gyomei Himejima is a Stone Pillar, the oldest, wisest, and most physically fit member of the Hashiro Squad. He is blind, but all of his other senses are literally overdeveloped, including the ability to "sense" people's souls. Sanemi Shinazugawa is the Wind Pillar and is very violent, hot-tempered, and rebellious, to the point that he is determined to kill Nezuko once he learns that she has become a Demon, even if it is abnormal. Sanemi Shinazugawa is an impulsive and hot-tempered individual who is always willing to stand up for his beliefs to the end. He has deep respect and reverence for the leader of the organization. When Sanemi and Gyomei fought Kokushibo, the demon acknowledged them as the strongest elite warriors he had encountered in the last few hundred years. Sanemi has a hot-tempered and aggressive personality, which makes it difficult for him to build relationships with other Hunters. Obanai appears callous and unsociable, but this may be due to his belief in the steadfastness of the Demon Slayers' rules. He can also be rude to those who he perceives as a threat to the organization and himself. friendly relationship between sanemi and obanai.

Sanemi is very kind to the elderly, women and children, but when he approaches children, they start crying.
Sanemi is also one of the top three Pillars.
Sanemi has a hobby of raising rhinoceros beetles. Sanemi has a love for ohagi, and often cooks them. However, his pride prevents him from talking about it.

As a Demon Slayer, Sanemi wields a standard-sized and shaped Nichirin katana with a jagged pattern resembling a green-hued beast's jaw. Its hilt has an abstract shape with 8 points with an overlapping pattern; each plate has a green core with a silver border. As a Pillar, Sanemi's blade has the words "Slay Demons" engraved on it. With his katana, Sanemi has a standard sword sheath that is a dark gray hue with silver markings resembling scars scattered across it.

Eighth Style: Primordial Storm Strike - Sanemi leaps into the air and swings his blade, creating circular currents of wind. Seventh Style: Sudden Gust of Wind - Sanemi creates a gust that cuts through the opponent. Ninth Style: Hurricane of Scanda - Sanemi leaps high above the opponent, turning upside down, and delivers a series of numerous attacks throughout the flight.

Sanemi has some control over his muscles, which he used to great effect during his fight with Kokushibo, closing a fatal cut on his abdomen. This ability allowed Sanemi to continue fighting for some time before having to heal the wound through other means. During his fight with Kokushibo, Sanemi was able to fight with multiple weapons, using both Genya's sword and gun in addition to his own nichirin blade. He also used fire when fighting Muzan, pouring oil on the demon and setting him on fire with a match. As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sanemi is one of the strongest and most skilled swordsmen in the entire organization. Sanemi's skill with a sword allowed him to keep up with and impress Upper Moon Kokushibo, a demon with centuries of swordsmanship experience. Sanemi was also able to adapt and work with Gyomei's Rock Breathing technique to push back Kokushibo. A breathing technique that Sanemi learned from an unknown trainer along with Masachika Kumeno. His mastery of this breathing reminded Kokushibo of the original Wind Pillar, who lived during the Sengoku era. First Style: Sand Vortex Strike - Sanemi charges forward into a cyclone of slanted tree trunks. Second Style: Wind Clearing Claws - The swordsman raises his sword up to the right, above his head, and slashes downwards, creating four blades of wind that slice downwards at the enemy like claws. Third Style: Wind Swaying Trees - Sanemi swings his sword, creating powerful gusts that crush the enemy. Fourth Style: Rising Dust Storm - Sanemi sweeps his sword horizontally, creating a cyclone of multiple slices that reflect enemy attacks. Fifth Style: Snowstorm - Sanemi strikes from above, falling in multiple arched slices. Sixth Style: Black Smoke Whirlwind - Sanemi swings his sword with great force, leaving behind a whirlwind that resembles multiple blades.

He was also able to keep up with a weakened Muzan for a long time with the support of the other Pillars. Despite having dozens of scars and cuts all over his body, Sanemi never showed any signs of pain and, in fact, cut himself with a blade to test Nezuko Kamado without even flinching. His incredible endurance and pain resistance was also shown during his battle with Kokushibo, where he was able to fight alone for a long time without the Demon Slayer Mark and, despite receiving many heavy wounds from one of Kokushibo's techniques, still continue to fight. In the Countdown to Dawn Arc, he was able to fight Muzan for approximately half an hour without rest, pushing his physical and mental capabilities to the limit without tiring. When Muzan was cornered, Sanemi was one of the first to act, having enough energy to use two more Wind Breathing Techniques. Thanks to his rigorous training over many years, Sanemi possesses incredible physical strength. He could effortlessly lift Nezuko Kamado in a box with one hand, knock out Zenitsu Agatsuma with a simple kick, break a wooden sword because he swung it too hard, and cut Tanjiro Kamado's ear with a single kick. He was also able to fight on par with Kokushibo, who was one of the most physically powerful demons in the world. Sanemi has a rare blood type that causes demons to salivate and feel extremely intoxicated. The effect is so strong that even the faint scent of his blood instantly affects demons, as seen in his battle with Upper Moon One Kokushibo.

As a Demon Slayer Pillar, Sanemi is a very powerful and skilled fighter. For example, in the Infinity Fortress Arc, Sanemi was shown to be able to destroy dozens of Demons comparable in strength to those of the Lower Moons, and was later able to hold his own against the First Upper Moon, Kokushibo. According to Kokushibo, Sanemi's physical abilities and technique have reached their peak. Kokushibo also noted that Sanemi and Gyomei were the two strongest Pillars. After defeating Kokushibo, Sanemi also assisted in the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, once again showing his excellent fighting skills. During his battle with Kokushibo, Sanemi received his Demon Slayer Mark, which resembles a green origami windmill with two dots on either side. The mark greatly increases his physical capabilities, as seen when Sanemi was still able to fight despite having his stomach cut open. During the battle with Kokushibo, Sanemi strikes his blade against Gyomei's spiked flail, briefly turning both weapons crimson, allowing them to decapitate the demon. Later, during the battle against Muzan, Sanemi forcefully strikes Giyu's blade, causing the same effect. Turning his blade crimson gives him the ability to completely stop the regeneration of the Upper Moons and prevent Muzan from instantly regenerating, which proved effective in the battle. Sanemi possesses high speed and reflexes, and is the third fastest Hashira. During the Hashira Training Arc, when he and Tanjiro Kamado fought over Genya, Sanemi moved so fast that some observers thought he was teleporting. When facing demons comparable in strength to those of the Lower Moons, Sanemi was able to effortlessly cut them to pieces while still sitting down. In his fight against Kokushibo, Sanemi was shown to be much faster than Muichiro, as he was able to dodge Kokushibo's attacks while Muichiro was easily defeated even with the Demon Slayer Mark. After receiving his own mark, Sanemi was able to fight and slightly overpower Kokushibo.

While Tanjiro leaves Rock Hashira training for Water Hashira training, Sanemi trains with Giyu, teasing him with phrases like "Too slow!" and "You're no different from the other Hashira!". Due to the Wind Hashira's anger at Tomioka's words during the meeting, the training would have turned into a merciless fight after their wooden swords break. This would have happened if Tanjiro had not arrived in time. Once the wooden swords break, he intervenes and tries to calm Sanemi and Giyu down, seriously suggesting that they eat ohagi together. This is how Tanjiro learns that Shinazugawa loves ohagi, (especially her grandmother's). However, Tanjiro ends up getting punched in the face by Sanemi, causing him to black out for a while. Then he wakes up and Giyu tells him that he couldn't find a common language with Sanemi, and that he ran off somewhere. Walking along some steps, Shinazugawa smells something strange in the bushes. Noticing the rustling in them, he pops Nakime's walking eye, which allowed Kibutsuji Muzan to find out the location of the Ubuyashiki family mansion.

He continues to say that Genya must leave the Corps as he is unable to use breathing techniques and leaves. Genya is devastated by his brother's words and calls out to him, saying that he always wanted to apologize to him, but Sanemi brushes off his words, telling him to leave. Learning that he overcame his breathing technique deficiency by eating demons to fight, Sanemi is shocked and turns around, attempting to stab his fingers into his brother's eyes, but Genya is saved by Tanjiro's intervention, who shields him from the blow just in time. Shouting at the Hashira's indecent behavior towards his brother and a Corps member, Tanjiro asks why he is trying to kill Genya, to which Sanemi replies that his actions are against the Corps code, and thus he would like to leave his brother unable to fight so that he would be forced to leave the Corps. Tanjiro objects to this, saying that Sanemi has no right to do such a thing to his brother and gets into a fight with the Pillar, which escalates into a big fight with all the trainees trying to stop Sanemi's rampage. This continues until the evening, and Tanjiro is given a ban by the head, in addition to being banned from approaching Sanemi, instead having to go to Gyomei Himejima's training session.

Sanemi attends the Hashira meeting held at the Ubuyashiki Estate following the attack on the Blacksmith Village along with the other remaining Hashira. When Mitsuri Kanroji tries to explain how she obtained the mark, he looks at her with annoyance as she cannot properly explain the phenomenon, but when Muichiro Tokito describes how he felt when the mark appeared on him, Sanemi scoffs and says that it is quite easy to achieve, causing Giyu Tomioka to reject him. After it is decided that a large-scale training will be held among the Demon Slayer Corps to help as many Demon Slayers as possible manifest their marks, Sanemi is excited at the prospect. However, he gets into an argument with Giyu, who refuses to train with the other Hashira, saying that he is "not like them", due to his long-held belief that he is unworthy of his title as a Hashira. Sanemi misunderstands Giyu's words and feelings and says that the Water Pillar is arrogant. Sanemi's training was a simple combat session where all the students would fight the Wind Pillar until they passed out or were unable to continue. He conducted these training sessions with great strictness and scared Zenitsu Agatsuma to the point that the young Demon Slayer ran away from the training, but was stopped by the arrival of Tanjiro Kamado. Sanemi tries to intimidate Tanjiro and says that he has not accepted him yet, to which Tanjiro responds by saying that he has not accepted him either, as he was the one who stabbed Nezuko Kamado and the Pillar was impressed by Tanjiro's courage. However, Sanemi beats Tanjiro so badly that the boy receives several bruises on his face. During one of the few breaks, Tanjiro walks in on Genya Shinazugawa in an attempt to talk to his brother, but Sanemi angrily rebukes him, telling him that he has no brother and to stop bothering him, warning him that otherwise he will tear him to pieces.

Even during the battle with his mother, he noticed that when he received a wound and it began to bleed, his mother began to move slower and began to act more confused. As it turned out, Sanemi possessed the rarest blood, which is the most favorite delicacy for demons and seems to enchant them with just its smell. This fact helped the boy in hunting demons.

Initially, he would go to the mountain at night, catch demons with whatever he could find, hang their bodies on trees, and wait for the sun to burn them in the morning. Sanemi hunted demons for a long time, not knowing about the Demon Slayer organization or the Nichirin Blades. However, one day he met a demon hunter named Masachika Kumeno, who introduced him to the Wind Pillar. They teamed up and trained together for a long time and did their job as demon hunters. One day, they managed to kill Lower Moon One, but since Masachika could not survive that battle, only Sanemi was able to become a Pillar.

Sanemi was raised as the eldest son in a family of seven children and lived with both his parents. He grew up in an abusive home where his father would constantly beat all of his children and his wife. No one loved his father, so no one was surprised that he was stabbed to death. The brothers thought that their father's death was a blessing in disguise. Sanemi offered to protect his brother from all adversity, but Genya corrected him that it was always like that. Together, they became the backbone of their family. One day, Sanemi's mother did not return home. She did not know that the children would be worried about her whereabouts, so Sanemi went to look for her. Suddenly, a loud knocking sound was heard at the door. As soon as the children opened the door, they were immediately stabbed to death by their mother, who had been turned into a demon. In order to protect his siblings, Sanemi took his mother out of the house and left his younger brother Genya to look after the siblings. After placing the injured children in a house, Genya frantically went to find a doctor to take care of them. As Genya went to town, he found Sanemi in the middle of a path with his mother lying dead at his feet. Genya yelled at Sanemi, calling him a "murderer" and became angry, saying nasty things to him and accusing him of killing their mother. Sanemi later disowned Genya as his brother for calling him a murderer and went on a journey alone. Due to all of these events, Sanemi developed psychological trauma that affected his physical condition: the boy stopped seeing colors and everything around him seemed black and white, which caused him to have some problems at night. In addition, he began to show suicidal tendencies and in an attempt to drown out his mental pain, he began hunting demons on his own.

Like the other Pillars, Sanemi respects his leader, however, given his personality, he can express displeasure with his decisions. When Sanemi first met Kagaya, he had no respect for him and rudely suggested that he was simply letting the Demon Slayers die while he sat safe with the Pillars to protect him, saying that his life was not a top priority. However, after Kagaya mentioned his reasons and his very weak body, Sanemi began to understand. Sanemi came to respect him after learning that Kagaya had memorized all the names of the fallen Demon Slayers, including his friend who died. Sanemi was greatly angered when Kagaya died in an explosion to slow down Muzan Kibutsuji.

Genya is his younger brother. After their father died, they made a promise to each other to always protect their family no matter what. However, after the events with their mother, they became distant from each other, which caused them to eventually go their separate ways. Whenever he saw Genya, he would mention that his brother had no talent and would never become a strong demon hunter. After learning about the methods his brother used to become strong, Sanemi wanted to inflict severe injuries on Genya so that he would never think about becoming a Pillar again. However, he did all this only so that his brother would not die somewhere on the battlefield and would start living a normal, happy life. Deep down, Sanemi was worried about his brother, because he did not want to lose the only person he had. Tanjiro and Sanemi have a very tense relationship. They both do not recognize each other, and despite Tanjiro's good nature, he can boldly express all his dissatisfaction towards Sanemi, which is why they often fight.
However, Tanjiro never held a grudge against him, realizing that Sanemi was not really such a bad guy. Out of all the pillars, Sanemi was the one who advocated for Nezuko and Tanjiro to be killed immediately. He openly expressed his hatred for her and stabbed her multiple times and even cut his hand open to prove that Nezuko was no different from other demons and would drink blood. However, after the demon war ended, he apologized to Nezuko and came to terms with his past and began treating her like a normal person.

He shows little to no respect for anyone other than Kagai Ubuyashiki, whom he speaks to with manners and respect. Despite his nature, Sanemi is determined and stands up for what he believes in, even if it means he must confront the actions of his own surviving family members.

Sanemi's disdain for demons. Due to all those he has lost to demons, he harbors a deep hatred for demons and is convinced that humans and demons can never coexist. Once Sanemi has made up his mind about something, he is extremely difficult to talk him out of it. He does not believe Tanjiro's claims that Nezuko would not eat humans, and tries to prove his point by stabbing the box with Nezuko inside. After angering her, he cuts his own hand to try and trap her into attacking him due to the effects of his rare blood. Even after she does not, and Kagaya uses this as proof that Nezuko would not attack humans, Sanemi does not truly accept the Kamado siblings. Sanemi shows a softened side of himself after the final battle. Tanjiro is ultimately right about Sanemi. Despite Sanemi's poor treatment of his brother Genya, he truly loved and cared for his brother. He even says that he wishes Genya would settle down and start a family. After the battle with the Upper Moon First, Sanemi shows not only great anger and a certain emptiness towards Muzan, but also more cooperation with the likes of Giyu, who he clearly did not get along with. Even when Sanemi is eliminated from the fight against Muzan, he shows undeniable courage and determination like his fellow Pillars. When the showdown with Muzan is finally over and time has passed, Sanemi has clearly softened up a bit. He is able to smile along with Giyu, even after their past clashes. Most surprisingly, he admits his mistakes and apologizes to Nezuko for his actions. It goes as far as to smile at her and pat her on the head, as he sees Genya in the way she reacts.

Age 21, height 179 cm, weight 75 kg. Sanemi is a tall, muscular and slender man. He has silver hair and dark purple eyes. Due to his frequent clashes with demons and using his special blood on them, his entire body is covered in jagged scars and marks. He wears a black version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, unbuttoned to expose his chest and abs, over which he wears a white long-sleeved cape with the kanji for murder engraved on the back, white buckles on his shins, and tabi socks with a pair of white zori with green straps. During his fight with Kokushibo, he loses the index and middle fingers of his right hand. Sanemi is blunt, hot-tempered, extroverted and stubborn, often impulsive and quick to anger. He is often indifferent to others and can become insane very easily. The only person Sanemi showed respect for was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and it was only after Sanemi realized that there was much more to the man than his appearance suggested. Sanemi has also demonstrated a thirst for battle, wanting to face the demons of the Upper Moons and stating his joy at battling Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo. Sanemi's cold, rude, and dismissive demeanor is a result of losing too many people he cared about in the past. Later, when he sees those people who have died, such as his mother, he cannot help but smile at her to see her again. When Gyonya joins the Demon Slayers in searching for Sanemi, Sanemi hurls verbal abuse at him, but Tanjiro can tell that Sanemi did not truly hate him; and in fact still felt the same brotherly love for him as a child. However, this was never expressed outwardly, as he tried to push Gyonya away from himself and the Demon Slayers so that he would not be in danger.
