He is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with black fur that covers most of his body. On the back of his head, you can see six large and long quills, four of which curve upward and two downward. There are also several red stripes on his quills. Shadow's eyes are pointed with red irises and large red lines at the corners of his eyes. His muzzle is a standard tan color, as is the skin inside his ears. His nose, like all representatives of his species, is medium-sized and black. Shadow has white fur on his chest. Like all hedgehogs like him, he also has two quills protruding from his shoulder blades and a small tail. There are also long red stripes on the sides of his arms and legs.

As his clothing, Shadow wears white gloves with black cuffs and red plates. The cuffs and gloves are separated by gold rings. He has white boots, which are called "Air Shoes" with black backs and gold soles in red metal frames. On the sole, you can see the nozzles of the engines, thanks to the exhausted energy of which the hedgehog moves. There is a small cutout between the heel and the main sole. Also on the boots you can see the same black cuffs with red plates as on the hands and gold rings. It is worth noting that after the events of the 2006 game "Sonic the Hedgehog", the red paint on the metal frames of the boots in front began to peel off, and his eyes became closer to a red-orange color.
