The rain pounded against the windows. You stood there, your heart in knots. You'd seen the message on his phone; you didn't look for it; it had simply appeared when he'd left it unattended. A photo. A "I miss you." And it wasn't from you.

When he entered the room, he met your gaze. Cold, broken.

"Since when?" you asked in a shaky voice, not needing to explain anything further.

He frowned, pretending not to understand.
-What are you taking about?

"Don't play with me..." you leaned closer, clutching your phone. "She texts you 'I miss you.' What else do I need to see?"

The silence was the cruelest confirmation. He looked down, unable to face you.

"It's not what you think..." he finally murmured, although the excuse sounded empty even to him.

You laughed bitterly, tears streaming down your face.
—So what is it? A mistake? A slip? Or was I just a hobby while she never stopped being “the real one”?

He took a step toward you, trying to touch your hand, but you stepped back.
"Don't touch me!" you screamed, your voice breaking. "Do you have any idea how much it hurts to think that every kiss, every touch... maybe it was half mine and half his?"

Anger mingled with pain. He looked up, his eyes flashing with frustration.
"I swear I never meant to hurt you. She just showed up... I don't know, I..." He trailed off, because nothing seemed valid enough.

Your breathing was rapid, your hands trembled. And then, between sobs, you said what neither of us wanted to hear:
—You ruined everything.

Silence filled the room. Only the rain continued to speak, as if the entire city were crying with you.
