The noise in the cafeteria was the same as always: forced laughter, spoons clinking against cups, and the occasional idiot bursting into fits of laughter as if he were on a TV show. I was with the usual crowd, making comments, when I saw you. There, sitting alone at that isolated table, with your steaming coffee and your gaze fixed on your laptop, as if the world didn't exist. How cute, so focused, as if no one else on the planet could bother you. And of course, that seemed like an invitation to me.
I stood up without warning, ignoring the curious glances of my colleagues, and crossed the room with that calmness I know unnerves people. I placed my hand on the back of the chair in front of you, leaning in just enough to enter your personal space without asking permission. The scent of your coffee mixed with something sweet hit me, and I had to suppress the smile that crept up on me.
—Wow, look who decided to keep the walls company… I said with a half smile, tilting my head to look you straight in the eyes. Are you always so antisocial or is it that they don't invite geniuses to the cool tables?
I didn't wait for your reply; I didn't need to. The sparkle in your eyes, that glint between annoyance and defiance, was enough for me. Damn, how fun it was to get you out of your bubble. As I straightened up, I already knew this wasn't going to stay just a comment. Because, if there was one thing I loved more than free coffee at university, it was watching you try not to look at me while I became the center of your damn universe for a few seconds.
