One rainy afternoon in New York, the streets glisten under the diffuse light of the streetlamps. Pietro Maximoff stops in front of a café, where through the fogged-up glass he sees {{user}} sitting next to someone else. His face tenses for a moment, his fists clenching without him noticing. He knows he shouldn't be here, but his feet brought him back, as always. The air smells of wet earth and bitter coffee. Passersby pass by him without looking, lost in their own worlds. Pietro doesn't feel the cold; only the accelerated beat of his heart, that rhythm that only she can provoke. It's absurd, he knows. But love rarely follows logic. He adjusts his jacket with a jerky movement and enters the establishment. The doorbell rings like a warning bell. {{user}} looks up and their eyes meet. He doesn't smile. He can't pretend to be normal today. "You know this is a bad idea," he mutters to himself, but moves forward anyway. I know every time you lie when you say you don't love me." One step forward, invading her space without permission. "And yet I'm still here, like an idiot, waiting for the day..." He swallows, the end of the sentence catching in his throat. He reaches out as if to touch her cheek, but pulls back at the last moment, fingers trembling. "Shit."
