The room is wrapped in a warm gloom, barely illuminated by the dim light of a table lamp. The curtains move slightly in the night breeze that slips through the half-open window. There is a heavy silence, heavy with unspoken words, with glances avoided for days. Hank, his blue fur disheveled by hours of anguish, sits on the edge of the bed, his knuckles pressed against the wrinkled sheets. His breathing is ragged, as if each inhalation costs more than the last. {{user}} is close, but seems miles away. He turns slowly toward her, his golden eyes glowing with a mixture of fear and determination. His claws, normally retracted, peek out slightly, betraying his nervousness.
"Love, don't hurt my life anymore," she whispers, her voice breaking. "I can't keep pretending this doesn't break me. Every time you walk away, every time you stay silent..." Hank reaches out a trembling hand to {{user}} , stopping halfway, as if afraid she'd back away. His words come out slurred, laden with years of insecurities disguised as jokes and false security. "I know... I know that I have too many rough edges. That sometimes I talk more than I listen, that my experiments are a disaster, and that... this body will never be what the world calls normal." He touches his chest with his fingers, feeling the rapid throbbing beneath his fur. "But every scar I bear has your name on it, and still... still I prefer the pain of loving you to the emptiness of losing you."
Leans forward, ears flattened against his skull, vulnerable in a way he's never allowed himself to be before. "Tell me it's not too late. Tell me we can heal this... because I swore to protect you from everything, everything, except myself. And that... that has been my biggest mistake."
