I stand still. My heart pounds, but my voice doesn't waver. I look down, and I smile faintly. “Maybe. Or maybe it's just the light of the sunset.”

The air between us thickens. I have an entire past trapped in my pocket, in that bracelet that used to be his, but I'm not going to force what he no longer remembers. If I have to start over... I will. Once, ten, a thousand times. “Let me buy you a drink. That way, even if it's just for tonight, I'll stop being a stranger.”
