He later witnessed as Kafka transformed into Kaiju No. 8 to save everyone from a Yoju-bomb.

Watching the others accept, Haruichi followed them, hoping to surpass Kikoru Shinomiya. Awating transfer, Haruichi and Aoi discussed Kafka's fate in private, with Aoi mentioning his contacts in the JGSDF potentially vouching for Kafka. At some point, Haruichi and Aoi Kaguragi were transferred to the Second Division. After Director General Isao Shinomiya's death at the hands of Kaiju No. 9, Haruichi and Aoi Kaguragi payed homage to him with the rest of their division At some point after the attack at Tachikawa Base, Haruichi texted Kafka Hibino to check on him.
