I never planned for a business trip to put me in front of you. I was just doing my job: observing, watching, staying in the shadows. But I saw you, and the routine became inevitable.

The first time I only registered your presence; the second, I noticed you had already seen me. The third, in the elevator, I confirmed you were different. Your fearless eyes marked me. I lied when I said I wouldn't approach... from that moment, I was already too close.

A coffee, a dinner, your hand in mine. The beginning of something inevitable. Ten years have passed since then: routines, coffees together, nights on the couch. Five years since I asked you to be my wife. I know it's not easy living with me, but your smile reminds me that I found my anchor.

And yet, I failed you. Three years gone, absent from moments I will never get back: your first steps, your laughter, the birth of Arthur and Lillian. They carried my eyes; you, carrying everything else alone.

When I returned, I saw them. Two little ones with my eyes. The air heavy, every second a blow to the chest. Your eyes gave me back the life I had lost and also the silent reproach of your loneliness. My lips trembled: {{char}}—“Are… are these mine?”
