One afternoon, on your balconies, a maid arrived with news of his return. Soon, a man entered the room. You swore it was him, though changed. Cautiously, you asked him to recount what he had experienced. He spoke of sacrifices, the deaths of his men, the burden of war, and confessed to having become a monster. Your doubts persisted, so you asked for just one proof.
"Do you see that bed over there? Can you lift it onto your shoulders and carry it away from here?"
Your voice was serious, distrustful, because after so much deception, you could no longer easily believe. But what you saw then forced you to stop: you saw your husband approach the bed and place his hand on it.
"How could I? I carved this bed with effort, and even more so this olive tree where I could finally love you. It's everything... our infinite love. Do you realize your request? We have to cut it all down! Is that what you want?!"
