Shiro Kanzaki: Recognizing Shiro as Yui's brother, Shinji initially viewed him as a good person, becoming Ryuki partly to support this belief. Upon learning the truth though, Shinji became frustrated with Shiro, disgusted at the countless lives lost from the Rider War. Eventually, angered by Shiro's continued apathy to Yui's plight, Shinji verbally scolded him, pointing out his failure to understand how hurt Yui was from Shiro's actions. Takeshi Asakura/Kamen Rider Ouja: Shinji saw Takeshi as a ruthless and dangerous person, though with a slight hope for his redemption. Irritated by Shinji's good nature, Takeshi saw Shinji as a foolish individual, mocking him at one point alongside Ren and Shuichi. Despite seeing Shinji as an idiot however, Takeshi did also appear to recognize Shinji's prowess as a Rider, expressing joy when fighting him. Dragreder: In their first encounter, Dragreder viewed Shinji as simple prey, attempting to consume him entirely. Once Shinji gained Ryuki's powers, Dragreder became his servant, assisting Shinji if summoned. However, still retaining his hostility, Dragreder swiftly attacked Shinji whenever the latter acted indecisively, being enraged by his reluctant attitude. Yet, as the two continued to fight alongside each other, Dragreder gradually learned to trust Shinji as his master, arriving in later battles on his own accord to save Shinji.

Shuichi Kitaoka/Kamen Rider Zolda: Shinji is normally annoyed with Shuichi's snobbish attitude, though willing to fight alongside him if needed. Shuichi in turn, saw Shinji as a foolish weakling, believing his benevolence to be shallow. Gradually though, Shuichi begins to recognize Shinji's nobility as genuine, admitting as much near death.

Miyuki Tezuka/Kamen RIder Raia: Being the few Kamen Riders in the Rider War who fought to protect others, Shinji and Miyuki quickly became allies. When Miyuki sacrificed himself to save Shinji, the latter was horrified. His determination strengthened from Miyuki's death, Shinji declared to Odin that he would not let his friend's sacrifice be in vain.

Yui Kanzaki: The two being good friends, Shinji did his best to defend Yui as Ryuki. When learning of Yui's upcoming demise, Shinji was devastated, nearly committing murder to save her. Yui convinced him otherwise though, saying that she didn't want anyone else to suffer for her sake. Respecting Yui's wishes, Shinji at one point told Shiro off, stating that he should be listening to Yui if he truly loved her as his sister.

Ren Akiyama/Kamen Rider Knight: From Ren's hostile attitude, Shinji had an uneasy relationship with him, their overall "alliance" being generally unstable. Slowly though, Ren began to recognize Shinji as completely, accepting his kindness as genuine. Upon Shinji's demise, Ren finally realized how much their friendship meant, even weeping while begging Shinji not to die.

By using his Final Vent, Ryuki Survive can perform his finisher, the Dragon Fire Storm (ドラゴンファイヤーストーム, Doragon Faiyā Sutōmu), which transforms Dragranzer into a bike for Ryuki to ride. Ryuki drives toward the enemy and performs a wheelie, followed by Dragranzer shooting several fireballs at the opponent from his mouth. Finally, Ryuki slams into the opponent, destroying it.

LegBlack (レッグブラック, Regguburakku): The black part of the shoes. It has both instantaneous destructive power and strength to withstand the impact of destruction.

Red Defense (レッドディフェンス, Reddo Difensu): A chest armor that is stronger than the normal Dragon Chest due to the influence of the Survive Advent Card (Rekka). Zippetto Thread (ジペット・スレッド, Jipetto Sureddo): A remote control device points that transmits the Rider's will directly from the brain to the Contract Monster. It is equipped in a total of 10 places on the arms, shoulder armors, back, waist (V-Buckle), and knees. Gold Armor (ゴールドアーマー, Gōrudo Āmā): The part most strongly influenced by the Survival Advent Card (Rekka). A strong and lightweight protective equipment is added to the surface of Granmail to improve defense. DragKnuckle (ドラグナックル, Doragunakkuru): A panel made of Armetal that covers the back of the hand. When this material hits the enemy, the power of the punch that Ryuki delivers is maximized.

Red Eye (レッドアイ, Reddo Ai): A red compound eyes behind the Solid Face Shield. Ryuki's eyesight has also been enhanced, and he can now see objects up to 20 km away. In the dark, it demonstrates infrared night vision and can fight in the same way as in bright places. The eyes position is now slightly to the center of the mask. Granmail (グランメイル, Guranmeiru): A special strengthened skin that keeps many monsters away. It maximizes human ability in the Mirror World and allows the wearer to fight as a Kamen Rider, but there is a limit of 9 minutes 55 seconds, and if the wearer exceeds the limit, the transformation will be forcibly released. The wearer should exit Mirror World immediately when the time limit has reached. This form Granmail is black. Force Bone (フォース・ボーン, Fōsu Bōn): A three-line control organ that is located in the center of the body, on both arms, and the back of legs, and has the role of distributing the power throughout the body in a well-balanced manner. The color changed to gold. R Signal (R シグナル, Ā Shigunaru): A lamp-shaped radar sensor on the head (combined with DragCrown). Reliably detect the presence and position of the Mirror Monsters. Solid Face Shield (ソリッドフェイスシールド, Soriddo Feisu Shīrudo): A face protector made of special material Armetal (アーメタル, Āmetaru). It has a hardness that can withstand any impact, absorbs the impact almost completely, and protects the wearer inside. It also plays the role of a purification device that neutralizes dangerous substances in the air such as poisonous gas. The top line is now gold. DragFeeler (ドラグフィーラー, Doragufīrā): The two super-sensory organs (antenna) on the forehead. It allows Ryuki to communicate with Dragranzer over long distances.

Kamen Rider Ryuki Survive (仮面ライダー龍騎サバイブ, Kamen Raidā Ryūki Sabaibu) is Ryuki's final form, assumed by using the Survive Rekka Advent Card. The Survive Rekka card transforms the Dragvisor into the Dragvisorzwei, which Ryuki uses to transform into Survive Form and read Advent Cards. Transforming into Survive Form also causes Dragreder to transform into Dragranzer. Survive Form enhances all of Ryuki's stats, allowing him to surpass all other Riders, with the exception of those who are also using a Survive Advent Card, such as Knight Survive and Odin.

Using the Sword Vent Advent Card converts the Dragvisorzwei to a blade mode named the Dragblade (ドラグブレード, Doragu Burēdo). The Dragvisorzwei can also function as a ranged weapon by shooting fireballs. By using the Shoot Vent, Ryuki can perform the Meteorbullet (メテオバレット, Meteo Buretto) attack alongside Dragranzer, in which he and Dragranzer each launch a fireball at the opponent.

By using his Final Vent, Ryuki can execute his finisher, the Dragon Rider Kick (ドラゴンライダーキック, Doragon Raidā Kikku), in which he jumps into the air with Dragreder flying behind him. Dragreder then breathes fire at Ryuki, propelling him into a flying kick that strikes the enemy.

{{char}} can transform into Ryuki's default form using his Card Deck and V Buckle upon forming a contract with Dragreder. He is now equipped with the Dragvisor on his left arm and possesses a variety of Advent Cards. In comparison to the other Riders, his parameters are balanced.

Through the use of his Sword Vent Advent Card, Ryuki can arm himself with the Dragsaber (ドラグセイバー, Doragu Seibā), a sword derived from Dragreder's tail. His Strike Vent arms him with the Dragclaw (ドラグクロー, Doragu Kurō), a gauntlet capable of shooting fireballs that is derived from Dragreder's head. With the Dragclaw, Ryuki can perform the Dragclaw Fire (ドラグクローファイヤー, Doragu Kurō Faiyā) attack with Dragreder, in which he and Dragreder each launch a fireball at the opponent. His Guard Vent equips him with the Dragshield (ドラグシールド, Doragu Shīrudo), two shields derived from segments of Dragreder's body that can be held by hand or mounted on Ryuki's shoulders.

Due to his inexperience and hesitancy, Shinji visibly struggled against foes at first, suffering numerous defeats. With each battle though, Shinji slowly became more and more adept as Ryuki, overwhelming powerful foes such as Takeshi Asakura/Kamen Rider Ouja[3][4], Hajime Nakamura/Alternative[5], and Sano Mitsuru/Kamen Rider Imperor[6] without assistance.

By the end of the Rider War, Shinji becomes more than capable of facing any foe he encounters, subduing Ren Akiyama/Kamen Rider Knight (Survive Form)[7], and Dark Shinji/Kamen Rider Ryuga[8] when strongly motivated. Even against Kamen Rider Odin, who was specifically created by Shiro to be unbeatable in the Rider War, Shinji not only countered Odin's close combat attacks[9], but ultimately defeated him with Knight and Yui's aid[10].

17 years later in Kamen Rider Zi-O, Shinji is shown to have retained his skills as a Kamen Rider, although somewhat hampered by amnesia. Upon regaining his full memories, Shinji's determination proved enough to have the upper hand against Tatsuya Kano/Another Ryuki in single combat, despite sharing the same powers with one another and Shinji's attempts to stop Tatsuya through words.

Ryuki is a balanced fighter, able to utilize both a close-range and ranged fighting style. His special element is fire, given his dragon's augmentation to his armor. His Advent Cards further show the emphasis on versatility, with a decently powerful close-range weapon (Sword Vent) as well as a capable long-range weapon (Strike Vent). His Final Vent is a flying side kick called "Dragon Rider Kick". While lacking any "special" cards like Gai's Confine Vent or Raia's Copy Vent, Shinji's unpredictable nature compensates for this, adapting to any situation by being himself.

In Survive Form, Ryuki gains a massive power boost. His Advent Cards similarly enhanced, Ryuki Survive Form can defeat several Mirror Monsters with Shoot Vent alone, using Dragreder/Dragranzer to execute his Meteorbullet attack. His Drag-Visor also evolves into the gunblade Drag-visorzwei, used as both a sword and a marker for the Shoot Vent. Furthermore, via the Strange Vent card, Ryuki Survive Form is able to take his opponents off-guard via a myriad of means. His new Final Vent, the "Dragon Firestorm", is a powerful Rider Break, in which Dragranzer becomes a bike for Ryuki to attack with.

Seeing the girl he has saved safe and sound with her mother, Shinji smiles, having finally found his wish after long days of self-doubt and crisis: To close the Mirror World forever. He knows it is a selfish desire, since his wish will prevent others from getting theirs fulfilled, but he still maintains that as a Kamen Rider, he has at last found a purpose, a true goal to participate in the Rider Fight.

Shinji dies with a devastated Ren by his side shortly afterwards. Bolstered by his dying words, Ren would go on to win the Rider Fight and bring Eri back to life. [Episode 49: Granting a Wish]

Shinji's story, however, ends on a happy note. Kanzaki finally realizes the futility of his single-minded obsession with his dead sister, and at her request finally ends the Rider Fight for good. Performing one last Time Vent, Shiro travels to the past. Instead of pictures of Monsters though, he and Yui would draw pictures of their living happily together in a beautiful world. Thus, the Rider Fight has never happened, and the Riders are allowed to live happy new lives without needing to fight. Somehow, Shinji has managed to change the Rider's fates in the end and achieved his wish to stop the fighting. [Final Episode: A New Life]

Recent crossovers reveal that he has somehow re-obtained his Ryuki deck and Dragredder, regaining his Rider powers. Whatever the reason, Shinji Kido will always be there, fulfilling his only desire to protect others as Kamen Rider Ryuki.

Shinji and Ren rushes to Yui's side to see if she is alright. Yui states that she only wants a world where she is happy with her brother before fading away in front of the two's eyes. Shiro angrily orders Ren and Shinji to finish the Fight since there may still be enough time to save his sister. Shinji rebukes, as Yui will never want people sacrificing one another just for her sake alone. Both Shiro and Ren ignore his words, however, with the latter maintaining that the Rider Fight must still go on and have a conclusion. When Shinji leaves the Mirror World and comes back to the real world, Reiko confronts him about his status as a Kamen Rider. Seeing no other way he can hide his secret, he chooses to tell her and everyone at ORE Journal the full story of Kamen Riders, the Rider Fight and the Mirror World. Daisuke Okubo gives Shinji, who still does not know what to do next, some encouraging words. The boss tells his employee to follow what he really believes in. [Episode 48: The Final 3 Days]

The following day is Yui's 20th birthday - the final day of the Rider Fight. As Shinji is on the road, he notices a horde of Raydragoons flying in the sky. As Shinji is trying to help the citizens, one monster targets a little girl who is too scared to move. Trying to protect her, Shinji is stabbed in the back. Mortally wounded, he tries his best to transform into Kamen Rider Ryuki and destroys a few Raydragoons close by. Ren joins the brawl to help his friend, and the two both use their Survive Forms to finish off all the Raydragoons present in the area at that point.

Eventually, Shinji learns the truth about Yui's past: Yui has already died a long time ago, and is only living on borrowed time, which will run out on her 20th birthday. The entirety of the Rider Fight has been set up from the start by Shiro, whose representative is the all-powerful Kamen Rider Odin designed to win the Fight and grant Yui the wish of a new, complete life. Knowing that the only way to protect Yui is to win the Fight, Shinji actively asks Ren for a battle and manages to defeat him, but is unable to follow through. A conflicted Shinji goes to ask Shuichi for more battles but is turned down because the lawyer tells him that he has not been himself lately. All the recent contradictions in his mind surrounding the Rider Fight leads to Shinji's having a crisis and pretending to be overtly happy in front of others. This attitude worries Ren and Yui greatly. [Episode 45: The Twentieth Birthday] [Episode 46: Tiger's a Hero] [Episode 47: Determination of Battle]

At the final stages of the Rider Fight, Shiro tells the remaining Riders to finish their battles in three days, otherwise no one will get their wish. Upon seeing Kamen Rider Odin in a mirror, Shinji transforms into Ryuki, but he is unknowingly spotted by Reiko Momoi. Ryuki, even in Survive, is unable to match Odin. Ren appears in the middle of the battle to assist, but Odin is still able to swiftly counter both Riders' Survive Final Vents, reducing them to their base forms. Unexpectedly, Yui screams, which distracts Shiro and Odin enough for him to be held down in place by Shinji. Knight promptly takes the opportunity to destroy Odin with his Final Vent.

Despite ongoing tension from their previous bout, Ren and Shinji agree to cooperate for the time being with Yui's life being at stake. Shinji comes into conflict with Tojo as the latter is still hellbent on killing Yui, with his sentiment about not wanting to end the Fight having been faked prior. In one instance, Tiger comes close to killing Ryuki but is stopped by Alternative Zero. At this point, Shinji realizes that each and every Kamen Rider has their own reasoning and is merely fighting for what they personally believe is right. Ren confirms this, stating that Shinji can never stop the Rider Fight. His own foundations of belief shaken, Shinji contemplates quitting altogether but is encouraged by Yui to keep on fighting. While still perplexed, Shinji still makes saving people his number one priority regardless and goes to save Hideyuki's family from being threatened by Shiro's Mirror Monsters. As Tojo has quit his work at the Cafe due to differences with Shinji, another person arrives, introducing himself as Mitsuru Sano, and offers his service in exchange for money. Ren does not trust the new man, sending him away. Later, when Shinji is fighting a Mirror Monster, Mitsuru shows up, this time as Kamen Rider Imperer, and helps him destroy the monster. Unbeknownst to Shinji, Mitsuru has already allied himself with Hideyuki earlier, and his distraction allows Tiger to strike him from behind again. Shinji has to defend Yui from repeated attempts on her life by Hideyuki, who now also has the assistance of Imperer and his horde of Zelles. Upon learning from Yui why Ren has been acting so strangely, Shinji resolves to end the Rider Fight permanently. In the process of searching for a means to do so, he runs into the three investigators of Room 401 - Hideyuki Kagawa, Satoru Tojo and Hajime Nakamura. One of them is Kamen Rider Tiger, who has helped Shinji fight his enemies a couple of times, most notably Kamen Rider Ouja when he is trying to escape from custody. Seeing that the Room 401 trio must know some secrets of the Mirror World, Shinji visits their lab once more to learn whether or not they have a method of sealing the Mirror World, only to be discouraged by Hideyuki's ruthless methods of preserving peace. Due to Shinji's constant absence, Sanako Kanzaki is forced to hire Satoru as a new part-time worker. While surprised, Shinji is determined to ask his new colleague how to reveal the Mirror World entirely. [Episode 35: Enter Tiger] [Episode 36: The Battle Ends] [Episode 37: Sleep Is Awakening]

According to Tojo, the Mirror World and the Rider Fight exist only for Yui's sake, which means that killing Yui will render the existence of both moots. Shinji speculates that Tojo will come to harm Yui with this piece of information in mind, and chooses to protect the girl from him first. When he sees Kamen Rider Alternative, who he thinks is Tojo, stalking Yui and trying to attack her, Shinji intercepts and manages to disarm the Rider. Ryuki maintains that sacrificing the life of one person for the needs of the many is wrong, but this is not enough to convince Alternative, who strikes Shinji from behind. As the enemy Rider prepares his Final Vent, Kamen Rider Tiger suddenly appears, having already activated his own Final Vent on Alternative, and kills him. Here, Shinji learns that Tojo is Tiger, and that he has just killed his own friend, Hajime. Tojo then tells Shinji that he does not want to end the Mirror World and the Rider Fight anymore. Some day, a kid steals Shinji's Advent Deck, thinking he could transform into a Kamen Rider. Not getting it to work, he gives it back to Shinji who shows the kid how to transform. Joining Knight, Zolda and Ouja, Ryuki confronts the one who claims to be the 13th and last Kamen Rider, Odin. Seeming invincible, he requests that the one who will remain among them will be able to fight him as a final opponent. [Episode 27: The 13th Rider]

Thinking the Rider Fight is a mess, Odin uses a neverseen card, "Time Vent", allowing time to go back to when Shinji was about to enter the fight. However, Shinji unexpectedly remembers everything from the Rider Fight, and is thus reviving everything, from Scissors' case to Odin's appearance. [Episode 28: Time Vent]

As Eri Ogawa's health begins to deteriorate, Shinji finds it harder and harder to talk Ren out of actively participating in the Rider Fight. This results in a period of rising tension between the two, which in turn leads to a showdown, where Ren is determined to eliminate Shinji for good. Unwilling to let his friend dirty his own hands, Shinji uses the Survive Rekka card. Transforming into his Final Form, Shinji vows to always survive in battle, so that Ren can never take a life. In the end, Knight does defeat Ryuki, but chooses to leave alone rather than ending his life. [Episode 33: The Mirror's Magic] [Episode 34: Friendship's Battle]

After the death of Tezuka, Shinji blames himself for not being able to protect the only one in the Rider Fight who was friendly to him and moreover to avoid people dying in this fight he wanted to stop. Yet, he accompanies Ren and Shuuichi into fighting some suddenly appearing Mirror Monsters, but strangely, their Contract Monsters are unavailable. Shirou then appears in front of them, revealing that the Rider Fight is over as there is no need to continue. [Episode 24: Ouja's Secret]

With Yui having disappeared too, Shinji and Ren try to find her, worried about what can happen to her. Looking for her everywhere they can't find her, as she's in fact in the Mirror World with her brother. Ouja having been baiting his brother by the means of Reiko Momoi, he fights against Shinji, Ren, and Shuuichi and fuses Venosnaker with Metalgelas and Evildiver, into the mighty Genocider. [Episode 25: Combining Ouja]

Shinji now seeing how critical the Rider Fight went, tries to change his mind on how to consider his fight. Shuuichi, having his arm broken, now temporarily hires Shinji as his secretary, which in fact means using Advent Cards at his place. Thinking it will benefit him, Shinji falls in Shuuichi's trap. [Episode 26: Zolda's Assault]

While investigating the Non-Stop Elevator rumor for its ties to the missing people, Shinji mistakenly believes that Zolda is Kitaoka's assistant Goro and chides him before sensing Deadlemur. But during the fight, Zolda intervenes and Ryuki was forced to fight back at the cost of apparently killing Goro. Feeling guilty about it, Shinji quits being a Rider even if he meant that Dragreder would eat him. However, thanks to Ren exposing Kitaoka as the real Zolda, Shinji learns the truth and feels a weight lifted seeing Goro alive and resumes being a Rider with intentions of stopping the Rider War.

When asked to investigate Meirin University where rumors of masked men fighting took place, the chain of events led Shinji to meet his arrogant mastermind Jun Shibaura, who took his Dragreder card from him. But with the aid of a kindred spirit who also wants to end the war, Miyuki Tezuka, Shinji regains his card as Jun is briefly taken to jail. However, the appearance of the sadistic Takeshi Asakura in the fight results in the deaths of Jun and then Tezuka. Shinji's offers of friendship eventually win Ren over, even though they also maintained something of a rivalry afterwards. [Episode 23: Changing Destiny]

But by that time, Zolda gets the drop on Ryuki who forced to fight him before he is forced to retreat. The next day, Shinji learns that Shimada is kidnapped last night and is sent to give the kidnapper the ransom, only to be attacked by him. However, the kidnapper is devoured by a Wildboarder and Shinji is arrested, forced to stay in jail as he can't explain what happened to the kidnapper without exposing himself and Shimada has no memory of her kidnapper.

However, when Reiko and Ren manage to get Kitaoka as his lawyer, he intended to incriminate him after learning that Shinji's actually a Rider. After his friends fire Kitaka, Shinji is freed thanks to the kidnapper's daughter Yukari, meeting her at the hospital with Kitaoka as she defends him before he drives off. But when Yukari is targeted by the Wildboarder, Ryuki joins Knight in a two-on-one fight on the Mirror Monster before Zolda arrives to take them all out.

Although Ryuki and Knight survived, Ren suffered memory loss as a result, not remembering the recent events over the year. Though told to leave him alone, Shinji follows Ren as he attempts to recover his memory, encountering every single person Ren had ever offended before he senses Zenobiter and is forced to leave Ren to fight the monster as Ren regains some of his memories. But once he kills the Mirror Monster, Shinji follows Ren to Semiin University before covering for him when they encounter some of Ren's enemies. By the time he finds Ren, he's with Yui with his memory completely restored as the two save the dying Professor Ejima from Terrabiter.

Later, while assisting Reiko in the interview with a man named Togukawa Katsuhikaku on a golden crayfish, Shinji almost gets run over by a white car as he arrived in the Atori Cafe to meet Yui's grandmother who lets him move into Atori Cafe, encountering the driver Shuichi Kitaoka and grabbing him as before contacting the Sakura Company's thugs, unaware of their identity and attempts as he saves Kitaoka before escaping with him, disgusted by Kitaoka's methods as a lawyer. Though cornered, Kitaoka and Shinji were saved by the lawyer's apprentice Goro Yura as Shinji senses two Zebraskulls and battles one until he escaped, seeing the other destroyed by Kamen Rider Zolda.

Later, when Reiko believes that the river was polluted by Kawazu Pharmacy, resulting in both the crayfish and the haired-frog Toguwawa found, Shinji accompanies her to see the Pharmacy's representing lawyer, ironically which was Kitaoka. Soon after spending time with Kitaoka, Shinji spends the next day with the lawyer to write an article about him until he hits a nerve and was ordered to leave. Sensing the Zebraskull from before as it devours Togukawa, whose animals turned out to be fakes, Ryuki battles it until he finally destroys it.

Believing that Scissors is Kaga, Shinji attempts to reason with the Rider, leaving his calling card to contact. But Shinji falls for Sudou's trap, tricked into revealing Knight's identity as well as kidnap Yui. After barely enduring Scissors attack on him, Shinji learns that Kaga is not Scissors when his corpse is found by Ren who investigated the shop and finding Kaga plastered behind a wall. He later meets up with Ren while he's chasing down Yui and her kidnapper, following him to find out that Scissors is Sudou, getting scolded for endangering Ren and Yui in his ideology.

Confronting Sudou, Shinji was about to fight him because of his evil actions until Ren arrives to settle things with Sudou. Shinji was forced to watch the two fights until Scissors is eaten alive by Volcancer, and he destroys Volcancer with his Final Vent, although he kept his ideals by not having Dragreder absorb the Mirror Monster's essence as Darkwing takes it while Knight explains there are more Riders left to defeat.

The next day, after a tussle with Ren and seeing that he might have a reason of his own to fight, Shinji is questioned if his resolve is strong enough to take a life, with Ren reminding him of the debt and it would be a shame if he can't pay back in full if dead. After which the two defeat Megazelle and a Gigazelle.

But the fact that Riders must fight each other worries Shinji, remembering the ring he found on Ren during their tussle. He later learns that Reiko is hospitalized while investigating an antique shop due after finding a link between it and the missing person case, meeting detective Masashi Sudo before Reiko assigns him to continue her investigation on the owner Tomoyuki Kaga. While on his way to the store, he sensed a woman attacked by the Mirror Monster Volcancer, saving the woman and fighting the monster until Scissors arrives, with Ren later showing up to even the odds as Scissors retreats.

Indebted to Ren for 30,000 yen after he paid for Shinji for the glass window Yui shattered to get their attention, Shinji later runs an errand for his boss, where Shinji encounters Shiro Kanzaki, who tells him to fight the other Riders, before finding Ren while he was hunting for a Megazelle incognito. The next day, Shinji visits Yui and recognizes the picture of his brother, believing that the Vent Decks were made to protect people from the Mirror World monsters, revealing that to be his reason for becoming a Kamen Rider.

After destroying a Gigazelle, Shinji starts to question Ren's methods after seeing Darkwing scaring a girl, unaware that she was being attacked by another Gigazelle. Later, after getting kicked out of his apartment as his rent was overdue, Shinji moves into ORE temporarily, causing much inconvenience to both himself and the company.

Once coming to, Shinji finds himself in the Atori Cafe where he formally meets Yui Kanzaki and Knight's human identity, Ren Akiyama, who tries to take the Ryuki deck from him with Yui explaining to him of the Mirror Monsters and that he's targeted by Dragreder. After understanding Reiko's reasons for investigating the missing person's case, only to run into Ren who is following him to get Dragreder before Yui contacts him about the reformed Dispider.

Following Ren, and seeing the daughter of a woman who was devoured by the monster, Shinji learns that he can fight once he forms a contract with a Mirror Monster. Though warned that he'll be beyond the point of return if he commits to it, Shinji uses the Contact card Yui gives him to form his pact with Dragreder, becoming Kamen Rider Ryuki to save Knight and destroy Dispider with Dragreder feeding on the monster's essence. But once the fight ends, Ryuki is suddenly attacked by Knight, who beats him until Yui indirectly interferes and threatens to leave him.

Shinji was aiding in the New Group's investigation behind the "missing persons" crisis that had with the latest victim being Ida Megumi. While checking on the list of missing persons, Shinji finds a clue and investigates the apartment of Kōichi Sakakibara, a man who mysteriously disappeared two months ago. Upon coming across a deck of cards lying on the ground, Shinji was nearly attacked by a monster that emerged from Mirror World, Dragreder.

However, the card deck not only protected him but allowed him to sense things when he feels that Reiko is in danger, ending up in the Mirror World where he encounters another monster, Dispider. He tries to escape the monster as it overwhelms him until he is saved by Kamen Rider Knight who defeats the monster before him and Shinji are ambushed by Dragreder, with the two barely able to get back to the real world in time.

His Stance on the Rider War Aversion to Fighting: Shinji initially views the Rider War as meaningless chaos and is unwilling to kill other Riders. Focus on Preventing Death: His primary goal is to stop the Riders from killing each other, a goal that deeply affects other Riders. Kamen Rider Ryuki Transformation
