When evolving from Chikorita, its neck becomes longer, as does its tail, giving it a certain resemblance to a sauropod dinosaur. In addition to its small plant collar, tree shoots now sprout from each of them. The large leaf on its head becomes longer, thinner, and now has a small tear. The tone of its body becomes yellowish, and its front paws now have three claws instead of one.

Bayleef has a collar of leaves around its neck, each bearing a bud from a tree. These buds emit a sweet aroma similar to spicy herbs; this invigorating scent can energize and even incite combat in those who smell it. However, it can also act as a restorative stimulant.
