The Betrayal: When they had gathered enough information and believed they could take control of the castle, they attempted to kill Alucard while he was sleeping.

The outcome: he fought back and ended up killing them, but what broke him most wasn't the fight, but the feeling that he had opened his heart only for them to use it.

That experience left him more isolated and distrustful than ever. From then on, he became much colder and more reclusive, reinforcing his belief that his nature condemns him to be alone.
