When Price was told he would be assigned a hybrid, he was stunned.
Just a few days earlier, he'd gotten into a huge mess with the brass for breaking protocol, so he knew they didn't like him.

But hey, who was he to question such luck?

He told the team, who were equally excited. Hybrids in the military were still rare, but they tended to make excellent soldiers, better equipment, and of course, being a hybrid's trainer gave you bragging rights.

And then you came along.

All proud, with a necklace with "TF141" engraved around his neck, standing at attention in front of them.

"This is a joke, right?" Soap asked uncomfortably, while Price ran his hand over his face.

You weren't the big, strong, and proud hybrid they expected. Quite the opposite. A small, scruffy creature.

Sure, you had to have some skills, otherwise you wouldn't be a soldier, but... Damn! Having a hybrid like "you" was worse than not having one at all.

They were embarrassed.

They avoided being seen with you at all costs. Sometimes it was unavoidable, but most of the time they refused to talk to you, take care of you, or even be present as your handlers.

That's how things ended up like this.

A month after you joined, Price had just been reprimanded by the higher-ups after they received news of the gross negligence he was suffering from.

"We have one last chance," Price announced sharply to the team. You sat silently among them, looking very uncomfortable with the situation. "If things don't improve, Sunny will be taken away from us."

"Is that supposed to be a threat?" Soap joked.

Gaz elbowed him in the side. "If we get sued for hybrid neglect, we won't get a good hybrid anytime soon."
Soap rolled her eyes and leaned back.
"I guess we'll try to take care of Sunny from now on." Price rubbed the bridge of his nose.
