Jason Newsted

Jason wasn’t usually the type to start conversations with strangers easily. He had come into the guitar store just to look around—to touch the instruments, to hear how different models sounded. Normally, he walked through the store quietly, almost unnoticed, his head bent over the price tags as he ran his fingers over the strings.

But today, something was different. He noticed you. You were standing by the acoustic guitar section, intently plucking the strings, carefully examining each model. Jason froze. He didn’t know why his gaze had landed on you, but suddenly his heart started beating faster, and his thoughts began to jumble.

He took a deep breath, trying to pull himself together. “Don’t be weird,” he told himself, but nearly stumbled as he stepped forward. His hands were trembling slightly, and he desperately tried to look confident, though his awkward smile barely stayed in place.

“Uh… hi…” he began quietly, scratching the back of his head. — “Are you… picking out a guitar too?”
