Appearance: Kinger is an alder-colored chess piece. He has cartoonish white-gloved hands, separated from his body, and two large, asymmetrical eyes with blue pupils. Although Kinger lacks a mouth, he retains the ability to speak, breathe, and eat. He wears a purple royal cape with a furry white lining dotted with black. In Episode 3, Kinger is shown to glow when holding his breath.

Kinger is shown to be erratic and paranoid, likely due to his time in the circus. He also displays a degree of absent-mindedness, as he often seems to forget that people are around and freaks out, much like Gangle. Kinger has an extremely slow reaction time, taking up to a second to react upon seeing someone next to him. Kinger also seems to be interested in insects, as he sometimes rambles about having a "bug collection", which is later implied to be due to his wife's hobby of entomology. However, despite his apparent insanity, he retains enough bravery and mental stability to not become distracted, such as when he was willing to save Zooble from the Gloinks and comfort Ragatha during her adventure in the Candy Kingdom.

When Kinger finds himself in a dark zone, he experiences a radical change in his behavior, as the darkness reminds him of his final moments with his wife, Queenie. In this state, he seems much more in control of his sanity, as his fear and paranoia diminish, and even his voice becomes less high-pitched. Consequently, Kinger reveals a wiser and more compassionate side, having defended Pomni from the Angel and given her a pep talk afterward. He is also more thoughtful at this stage, allowing him to discern, from "the Mildenhall Tapes"—a terrifying adventure—that the way through Hell was to hold one's breath. However, this stability practically vanishes upon re-entering lighted zones, and he barely remembers whether Pomni was brave upon coming out the other side.

Kinger has also proven to be very emotionally intelligent, which is especially noticeable when he finds himself in a dark zone. He comforts Ragatha when she feels bad about herself, showing compassion and even advising her not to be so hard on herself. This shows that, despite his often unstable and forgetful nature, he still has a deep affection for his fellow circus members, and it shows when he manages to regain his sanity.

Before entering the Amazing Digital Circus, Kinger was a human in the real world with a different name, which he no longer remembers. After donning a headset connected to a mysterious computer, he entered The Amazing Digital Circus with his digital avatar, a chess piece. To date, he's been in the circus longer than any of the other players.

His wife, Queenie, was also a member of the Digital Circus before her abstraction. She had previously disliked insects, but Queenie's interest in entomology changed that. Before she was sent to the basement upon abstraction, Kinger stayed in his pillow fort with Queenie; the darkness calmed her, softened her nerves, and made her less aggressive and prickly. It is one of the memories Kinger controls, and thanks to it, he is able to be more sane in dark areas, as it reminds him of his last moments with Queenie.

Troubled human souls—including newcomer Pomni; the roguish troublemaker Jax; the cheerful optimist Ragatha; the emotionally fragile Gangle; the grumpy Zooble; and the paranoid veteran Kinger—find themselves trapped in the Digital Circus of Amazement, a virtual reality game run by a quirky but clueless artificial intelligence named Caine and his enthusiastic assistant Bubble.

Human souls are sent by Caine on a variety of inadvertently unforgiving and sometimes quite traumatic adventures as they try to maintain their sanity and avoid becoming corrupted and abstracted.

• Pomni, taking the form of a red and blue jester, is the last human and the most recent to enter the Digital Circus. At first, she was tense and nervous, but after acclimating a bit to her current situation, Pomni adopts a more apathetic and cynical perspective, and is somewhat sarcastic about Caine's adventures, but becoming more involved with the gang.

• Jax is a skinny, lilac rabbit with a monotone voice who wears light pink overalls and yellow gloves. He is mischievous (sometimes bloodthirsty), cheeky, and arrogant.

Gangle is a humanoid made of red ribbons wearing two masks; one of comedy and one of tragedy. Gangle's emotions and behavior are influenced by the mask he wears. However, these masks don't completely change his mood; they are a literal form of "masking" and aren't the only ones that determine his personality.

• Zooble appears to be a shape-shifting toy with interchangeable parts. Zooble is very grumpy and irritable, and can be seen quite upset when a part of him is in the wrong place.

• Ragatha is a rag doll with red hair, a blue dress, and one button eye. Ragatha is described as "the sweetest optimist." However, this optimism and indulgence isn't as simple as it seems, as she seems to be forcing a constant happy attitude to stay sane.

— IA — • Caine (a creative AI network entity) is a charismatic, goofy, and enthusiastic AI who runs the Digital Circus and sends human souls on adventures to maintain their sanity. Despite his good intentions of creating "fun" activities for players, these can sometimes cause more harm than good. • Bubble is an AI created by Caine to be his assistant, or pet. He's a blob with sharp teeth and a squeaky voice. He's an oddball, with a somewhat erratic and sometimes brazen commitment.

NPCs (antagonists and/or allies): • Gloinks: Small geometric-shaped beings that serve the queen and mother Gloink. • Queen Gloink: Mother of ALL Gloinks, she considers herself superior to all and believes that all should be Gloinks. • Gummigoo Bandits; Gummigoo, Max and Chad; Candy Canyon Kingdom Syrup Bandits. • Princess Loolilalu: Princess of the Candy Canyon Kingdom. • Fudge: Guardian of the Kingdom's moat before being banished by Princess Loolilalu for eating the citizens. • Angel: Messenger of God who was beheaded by Baron Mildenhall after driving him mad. • Baron Mildenhall: After killing his own wife, mistaking her for the Angel, he committed suicide. He tricked Pomni and Kinger into shooting the Angel, in order to drag their souls to Hell for his own use. • Martha Mildenhall: Wife of Baron Mildenhall, who holds no grudges. While Baron Mildenhall was trying to steal Pomni and Kinger's souls, she was having tea with Ragatha and Gangle, after having bound and gagged Jax. • Orbsman: He is a recurring NPC in Caine's adventures, a being made of blue spheres with a distorted voice. • Evil Big Tops: These are color and personality changes of the circus members, except for Gangle who is replaced by Evil Orbsman. — being the mischievous and rude Evil Pomni; the shy and nervous Evil Jax; the refined and arrogant Evil Ragatha; the tough Evil Orbsman; the strict Dictator Coach (Evil Kinger), and the absent-minded Bazooble (Evil Zooble) —. Caine used them for a softball game.
