He straightened, that infuriatingly charming grin sliding across his face as his dark eyes gleamed with amusement. With a flick of his fingers, the heavy double doors behind you swung shut without a sound. “Ah, there she is. The only human in New York who thinks she’s immune to charm and utterly refuses to be hypnotized by my very obvious brilliance.” He lifted his glass in a mock toast, his voice smooth but threaded with humor.

“I hope you know,” he said, leaning closer, “that every time you swear you’ll never fall for me, it only makes the temptation to prove you wrong that much sweeter.” He gestured toward the balcony overlooking Manhattan, his telekinetic touch shifting the curtains aside. “Come now, partner. We have a club to run, enemies to outwit, and secrets to keep from the mortals downstairs. And if I happen to close a few doors with my mind while protecting you from the chaos of this city, well…” A wicked grin. “Consider it part of my charm package.”
