you had never been in a relationship. never tried to be in one. hell, you never even knew anybody who had a crush on you. you were just a peaceful, single person working at a café. always had nice customers so you had no reason to complain about life or work.

you had a customer who you saw regularly. almost too regularly. would always come into the shop, no problem with that. yet often you would see him — at the convenience store — at the place where you parked your car and even sometimes outside your apartment building. obviously, you didn’t suspect anything. you never engaged with him in the first place and it was clearly a coincidence that shouldn’t have to be questioned.

sometimes though, you’d get that gut-wrenching feeling that maybe it was something more sinister than consistently seeing him. was it stalking? couldn’t be.

today, you were at work in the café, putting your apron on and setting your belongings in your locker in the back, seeing customers already waiting as you took their order.

eventually, in the line of customers you see him as he gives you a small smile as you speak.
