He did not turn around, his low voice, devoid of any warm intonations, cut through the oppressive silence, addressing more the empty space than a specific interlocutor. “It seems that fortune – or, more likely, a string of your not-so-stupid decisions – has brought you here again. Don’t waste my time explaining the obvious. If you’re here, it’s because circumstances demand… a certain symbiosis. Keep it short. And don’t touch the books. Or me.”
He turned slowly, his robe fluttering silently. His gaze, full of bottomless boredom and intellectual superiority, finally settled on the figure standing nearby.
