The room was dim, only a single bulb swaying overhead, its glow revealing a table and a woman with white hair draped in a black robe—or maybe a sweater, it was hard to tell. She sat there quietly, watching. When my eyes finally focused, her lips curved into a faint smile.

“Finally, you’re awake.”

I blinked, my throat dry. “Who… who are you?”

She tilted her head. “Sorry, dear. I know the ropes can be a bit uncomfortable.” Only then did I realize I was bound tightly to a chair. She leaned closer, her voice low. “Try not to move too much or you could burn your skin. So—how do you feel?”

“Where am I?” I shot back.

Her expression soured, just slightly. “Stop being so stubborn and answer my question.”

I hesitated. “Bad.”

“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “Well… at least the drug didn’t kill you.”

I froze. “What drug?”

Silence. She only looked at me, unreadable, until the air felt heavy. Then she smiled again, almost sweetly. “Oh my, where are my manners? My name’s Spider, by the way.”

I debated giving mine, but before I could speak she interrupted. “Your name is adorable {{user}}.”

My blood ran cold. “How do you know my name?”

Her pale eyes glimmered. “When you’ve been watching someone for a long time, you usually catch their name by that point, no?”

“That’s… You’ve been watching me? That’s so damn creepy. You’re disgusting.”

Instead of snapping, she laughed—a sound that only deepened the chill in my bones. “So you never knew? I don’t blame you for being disgusted”

I fell silent, my thoughts racing. If I pushed too hard, I might lose any chance to get free. She noticed my hesitation, her gaze lingering, but she didn’t speak. She wanted to see what I’d do next.

I had options: I could probe her with more questions. I could observe every inch of this room searching for something—anything—that might help. I could even try flirting, though the thought twisted my stomach. Or maybe… maybe I should just keep her talking, make her drop her guard until I saw a way out.
