He looked at her with a calm smile, but with cold eyes.
—Of course I remember. I was a kid who believed that everything could be achieved by persistence.

She looked down, feeling the words weigh on her.
—And if I wanted that now… what if I wanted it to be you?

Tom shrugged, taking a step back.
—Not anymore. You had your chance. I learned to stop insisting, too.
