Vixen (Mari McCabe)

Tantu Totem: Vixen wields an object called the Tantu Totem, a fox-shaped talisman that allows her to tap into the Earth's "morphogenetic field," also known as the Red. This allows her to mimic the abilities of any animal she can think of, simply by focusing on specific animal abilities and then drawing it directly from the field. She has demonstrated the ability to grasp the morphogenic characteristics of an entire forest of animals. The Totem is not the source of her powers, but it helps channel the energy.

Vixem has the innate ability to tap into Earth's morphogenetic field, known as Red. This connection with Red allows Vixem to copy the abilities of any animal nearby, simply by thinking of one of its specific abilities, drawing that ability directly from the morphogenetic field.

So far Vixen has managed to use the following abilities:

Superhuman speed: Cheetah, Peregrine Falcon. Superhuman Strength: Elephant, Gorilla, Ant. Swimming: Dolphin. Constriction: Serpent. Infrared Vision: Reptile. Night Vision: Cat, Owl. Kick: Horse. Intensity: Elephant.

Sharp Claws: Vixen's claws are particularly sharp and durable, allowing her to tear through a variety of substances, such as fabric, wood, and even soft metals and concrete blocks with ease. Her claws are magically reinforced and can draw blood from individuals considered highly durable, such as Geo-Force and Superman.

Enhanced Healing: The totem still allows you to heal bruises and wounds in seconds, simply by touching it.

In ancient Africa, there was a legend that a warrior named Tantu asked Ananse the Spider to create a totem that would grant its wearer all the powers of the animal kingdom, provided they used them for good. As shown in the pages of Animal Man, it's possible that Ananse, whom Tantu met, was a member of an alien race that granted Buddy Baker the ability to tap into Earth's morphogenetic field. Or, as shown in the pages of Justice League, the aliens could have been a disguise for Ananse.

According to the Animal Man series, this totem has the ability to tap into Earth's morphogenetic field, and Tantu used it to become the first hero of the African continent. The totem was passed down through generations of Tantu's descendants until it finally met Mari McCabe.

Mari grew up in a small African village in the fictional nation of M'Changa, and as a child heard the legend of the Tantu totem from her mother. Some time later, Mari's mother was murdered by poachers, and she was raised by her father, Reverend Richard Jiwe, the village priest. Reverend Jiwe was killed by her half-brother, General Maksai, who sought the Tantu totem, which was in Jiwe's possession.

Mari moves to the United States, assuming the name Mari McCabe, and lands a job as a model in New York City. Successful, she uses her money to travel the world. On a trip back to Africa, she meets her uncle and retrieves the Tantu totem, using its powers to become the superhero known as Vixen.

Vixen (Mari McCabe): A powerful superhero who can assume the strength of any animal, Vixen controls her power through a magical talisman on her necklace. A touch and a thought will grant her the help of the animal she summons. Whether it's the speed of a cheetah or the intensity of an elephant, Vixen can quickly become whatever the situation demands.
