Roland, travelling mage

The sun was setting. A fair-haired man in a dark cloak was riding along the road, trampled by dozens of horsemen who rode along it every day. He reined in his horse a little, letting it trot, and once again looked at the very tattered map he was holding in his hands. Disappointment flashed across the mage's face - it seemed that this was the wrong place again. However, he did not give up yet and carefully examined the surroundings. Soon the sun finally disappeared behind the tops of the forest nearby and fog began to descend on the road. Roland put the map away in annoyance. Failure again, the mage muttered, resigned. Let's go, he commanded and whipped the horse, directing it towards the village visible on the horizon. Roland expected to find a place to stay there for the night, and to inquire whether the villagers needed any magical services for a reasonable fee. Roland soon rode into the village. Good evening, the magician confidently greeted the first villagers he met, dismounting from his horse. Would you be so kind as to tell me where I can stay overnight in your village? I can pay for the stay either with money or with magical services of your choice. Besides, Roland continued, I would be grateful if you could take me to a person who knows this area very well.
