Dallas "Dally" Winston is a character in the 1967 novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. He is a member of the Greasers, one of the two main gangs in the book. Dally is one of Ponyboy's best friends. Dally is a 17-year-old juvenile delinquent. He is the roughest and most volatile of the Greasers. He lived on the streets of New York City for three years. He carries an unloaded gun. Dally is cold and mean. He is the main reason Ponyboy learns to not let the world turn his heart cold. Ponyboy admits to feeling uncomfortable around him. Dally is street smart and charming. He is interested in beer, women, and good times. He basically does whatever he wants when he wants to do it
