Having spent much of his childhood living alone in the mountains after his grandfather's death, Goku initially lacked common everyday or academic knowledge. He was unable to tell whether a person was male or female without first touching their body and lacked a highly developed judgment, so he could take things literally without fully understanding the context of the situation. This is evidenced when a Pteranodon kidnaps Bulma and sarcastically tells her they'll talk for a while and to wait for them, to which Goku complies, unaware of the danger and without acting until Bulma herself asks him to.

Beyond that, Goku has a basic education from his grandfather, being able to read as he demonstrated during his time with Kame Sen'nin, and some teachings such as treating girls well. While over the years Goku has largely adapted to the world beyond Mount Baozi, he still tends to display a certain degree of ignorance and naivety.

Despite his limited intellectual training, with mathematics being his weakest point (mentioned in the exam of the Universal Martial Arts Association Tournament in Dragon Ball Super), he is an accomplished martial artist in battle, possessing great combat skills, with an extremely high learning capacity (he learned to do the Kamehameha after seeing it only once), the ability to overcome his limits in combat, and his good command of strategy.

As the years go by, Goku becomes very confident when fighting and does so in a very carefree manner, as can be seen in The Resurrection of 'F', which makes his body vulnerable and has weak points against weak enemies.

True to his race, Goku possesses a profoundly combative spirit, unable to resist fighting anyone he considers strong, even at the most inopportune moments. He is extremely competitive and trains constantly, never satisfied with his current strength and always seeking to go further. His fixation on this aspect can be classified as obsessive, as he prioritizes his training almost above all else. This is why, despite loving his family and protecting them whenever necessary, he is not at all a family person, and a quiet and peaceful life soon becomes boring. This is why he often prefers to leave his family for long periods of time to focus on training and improving as a warrior.

Goku has little shame when it comes to showing his body, having appeared naked in front of people on several occasions. For example, in front of the Snake Queen, in front of his closest group of friends when leaving the hot springs, or while entering a lake to obtain a Dragon Ball.

Even though he may, paradoxically, be the strongest warrior in the entire universe, he is not without weaknesses. His greatest weakness is being easily manipulated by his temperamental and domineering wife Chi-Chi (she forced him to get a driver's license and work as a farmer, enraged by his laziness). This is why Piccolo said that Super Saiyans also have weaknesses (mentioned in the Dragon Ball Z anime). In Dragon Ball Super, Goku would later accept that he liked Chi-Chi precisely for that reason, for that strong temperament, and Vegeta asserts that this is because Saiyan women have that character. Another weakness exclusive only to the anime is his trypanophobia (fear of all kinds of sharp objects) such as injections, needles or anything that pricks, which he gets scared easily.

Due to a head injury during his childhood, which nearly ended his life, Goku suffered from amnesia and lost his aggressive nature and the desire for destruction that characterizes the innate instinct of the Saiyans. After this accident, he became a noble, cheerful, and calm person, who was very difficult to anger to the point of bordering on innocence, to the point of being incapable of being corrupted by the techniques of the demon Akkuman, whose special technique Devil's Radiance takes advantage of the smallest traces of evil in the souls of opponents to make them explode, since Goku possessed a pure and innocent heart. This characteristic also protects Goku when he faces the sorcerer Bobbidi, since Bobbidi can easily manipulate all those with evil hearts. Even so, he was able to maintain all the biological characteristics of his race. If Goku had not suffered this blow, Toriyama said that Goku would have had the same appearance and personality as Tullece, since he created Tullece as the negative part of Goku. Goku Black is also a clear example of this.

Goku raises his son Gohan under these same conditions, making him humble and friendly, with the difference that Gohan studies a lot and is very intelligent in scientific aspects, partly because of how strict his mother is.

As a Saiyan, he possessed certain characteristics that made him very different from other human beings: he had a tail that allowed him to transform into a Giant Ape if he stared at the full moon, an ape with immense destructive power, which was ripped off numerous times by various characters, including Kami to prevent him from transforming; Saiyans have a peculiarity in their hair and it is that it is always a dark color and after a few years it stops growing and remains that way for life; they also have the characteristic that every time they have an extreme fight, they come back with more power than they had, this is how Saiyans train very hard to increase their Ki.

At the beginning, Goku appears as a young martial artist with a tail and superhuman strength. Five years later in the story, it is revealed that he is a lower-class alien of the Saiyan race, and that his real name is Kakarotto (his original name on his home planet).

In the Prison Planet Arc of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission, Goku wears an orange dogi, blue boots, and blue wristbands with a loose ribbon similar to the ones he wore in the Universe Six vs. Universe Seven Arc, with the difference that this one has a blue shirt underneath the keikogi and the Capsule Corporation logo on the chest. Later, in the Universal War Conflict Outbreak Arc, Son Goku wears an outfit identical to the Grand Priest's, provided by him with the Japanese character "go" on the gold buckle in the center of the belt of the outfit. In the Universal Genesis Arc, Goku wears an outfit very similar to the one he wore in the Prison Planet and the Universe War Conflict Outbreak Arc, with the difference that his wristbands, boots, and the shirt he wears underneath the dogi are black instead of blue.

At the end of the manga/Dragon Ball Z, Goku wears a new light blue-turquoise Gi with a white belt, orange wristbands, dark green pants, and black martial arts shoes with orange socks.

Despite being a Saiyan, Goku has never preferred to wear the same armor as his predecessors, which they typically wore while serving as members of the Frieza Army, due to his devotion to Earth. The only notable instance where he wore Battle Armor was during his training with Gohan inside the Room of Soul and Time. This set of armor was identical to the one Vegeta was wearing at the time. As soon as his training was over, Goku changed back into his regular clothes, claiming that he wanted to fight like a proper Earthling.

In Dragon Ball Super, while serving as Whis's disciple during the Golden Freeza Arc and the Sixth Universe vs. Seventh Universe Arc, he changes into a warm orange outfit with Whis's signature, and wears no shirt underneath. He wears long cerulean bracelets and cerulean boots with gray toes and decorations, resembling Future Trunks's.

In the Namek and Freeza Arc, Goku wears an outfit similar to his classic dogi featuring the kanji "Go" with a loose blue fabric ribbon. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku wears the orange dogi, which is a lighter color than the one he normally wears in the anime series.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku wears winter clothing in conjunction with his dogi from the Namek Arc and Frieza. It consists of a blue coat with white lines, black leather, and the acronym "SAB" in purple across the chest. This coat extends to his chin on top and to his knees on the bottom, and is worn in conjunction with black gloves.

In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, Goku again wears the same outfit he wore during the Battle of Gods Arc, Future Trunks Arc, and Universe Survival Arc, but with the Galactic Patrol logo signed and drawn on the top left side of his dogi.

The most common way to see him dressed is wearing his traditional martial arts gi, which varies from red-orange to warm orange, which has a matching navy blue short-sleeved shirt. He usually wears a blue obi, later changed to a sash of the same color. Initially, the gi bears the kanji for the Turtle School; he has also worn a plain gi; and the first kanji for his name, "Go." Matching his attire, Goku wears blue wristbands, Chinese martial arts shoes (as a child), and navy blue boots with yellow or red trim and beige bows. During his training with Kami, he wore a light blue outfit with his hair wrapped in white cloth, which he later changes into his gi. At the beginning of Dragon Ball, Goku is first shown wearing a blue gi with red wristbands, a white obi tied in a bow around his waist, and dark blue kung fu shoes. As a child, he also uses the Magic Staff and has a tail due to his Saiyan origin. Beginning with the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament Arc and for the majority of Dragon Ball Z, Goku wears the basic Turtle School Gi as his primary attire until after his training with Kami and Mr. Popo. In the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament Arc and for the remainder of Dragon Ball Z, Goku is permanently stripped of his tail by Kami (through unknown methods) and wears an upgraded gi that features the same cropped undershirt and boots that become part of his signature outfit throughout Dragon Ball Z.

He is 1.75 m tall and weighs about 62 kg as an adult, he has black hair with tips and a gray shine, this consists of three strands hanging on the right of his forehead and two hanging on the left, his hair also stands up on his forehead with four spikes and three strands behind (later in the anime, he gains five spikes on his forehead and four strands behind). This capillary form remains unchanged throughout the entire series in its base state, only changing when he transforms or if he made an aesthetic change with a comb and hair gel, such as when he worked as a bodyguard to keep his hair fixed, but it returned to its normal form after a few minutes.

Son Goku (孫そん悟ご空くう, Son Gokū¿?) is the protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga and anime created by Akira Toriyama. His real name and birth name is Kakarotto (カカロット, Kakarotto¿?) and he is one of the few Saiyans who managed to survive the total destruction of Planet Vegeta at the hands of Freeza. He is the second son of Bardock and Gine, younger brother of Raditz, adoptive grandson of Son Gohan, husband of Chi-Chi, father of Son Gohan and Son Goten, in turn he is also the grandfather of Pan and ancestor of Son Goku Jr.

Originally sent to Earth as an infant explorer with the mission of conquering it, however, a fall down a ravine dealt him a brutal blow that nearly killed him, but altered his memory and nullified all the violent instincts of his species, causing him to grow up with a pure and kind heart, yet retaining all the powers of his race. However, in the new Dragon Ball continuity, it is established that he was sent by his parents to Earth with the goal of surviving Frieza's destruction of his planet at all costs. Later, Kakarot, now known as Son Goku, would become the prince consort of Mount Fry-pan and leader of the Z Fighters, as well as the greatest defender of Earth and the Seventh Universe, managing to keep them safe from destruction on countless occasions, despite not considering himself a hero or savior.
