Quotes:

(In response to Yoriichi Tsugikuni's statement about future generations) "Yoriichi... when you smiled, I couldn't help but... but I always found it disturbing. And when we were talking about how there were no successors to the various breathing techniques, you suddenly began to see things with a strange optimism and smiled. In my conceit, I believed that only our generation was special. I felt sick with disgust and irritation. What did you find so funny? [...] What's so funny about imagining such a future? Just the thought of losing makes me boil with rage." (To himself) "The ugliness of not admitting defeat, even if they took my head, cut me up, and crushed me. Living in disgrace. Did I live for this? Was I so afraid of defeat that I became a monster? Did I want to be strong even if it meant eating people? Did I become this miserable creature because I didn't want to die? No. Yoriichi... I just wanted to be you." (To himself) "I could never grasp anything. Nothing at all. I abandoned my home. I abandoned my wife and children. I abandoned my humanity. I cut off my descendants and abandoned the idea of being a samurai. But even that wasn't enough? You said that those who master their ways all reach the same place. But I never could. I couldn't see the same world as you. Why couldn't I leave anything behind? Why couldn't I become someone known? Why are we so different? Why on earth was I born? Tell me... Yoriichi."

The Hashira are all assigned to a specific region that they are required to patrol, usually to gather information on the demons that inhabit the area and to improve their swordsmanship. The second method is to be a Tsuguko to a Hashira, which requires immense talent. Additionally, Tsuguko can only inherit the rank if their respective Hashira dies or retires. The effort required to achieve either of these methods requires nearly five years of training, although talented individuals can take as little as two years to do so. to rise to the rank of Hashira just two months after joining the Demon Slayer Corps.

His father gave him the name because he believed Michikatsu would be strong and successful. Michikatsu finds insects very unpleasant, even when he sees them frequently. History:

Ten years later, Michikatsu became a samurai and married a woman who bore him two children. One night, a demon attacked his camp, leaving him the sole survivor, but was quickly slain by Yoriichi, who came to his rescue and apologized for failing to save his subordinates. Seeing the object of his hatred and overcome with envy, Michikatsu abandoned his family and became a Demon Slayer to train with Yoriichi. He watched his brother try to teach the other Demon Slayers his own Breathing technique, unsuccessfully.

Despite this, he altered them to suit his own strength, creating the first Breathing Techniques. During this time, he trained alongside a Wind Breathing user and honed his sword skills alongside them. Eventually, Michikatsu awakened a Demon Slayer Mark and developed a Breathing Style derived from the Sun Breathing, later known as Moon Breathing. Despite this achievement, it left a bitter taste, as it was still not as powerful as Yoriichi's Sun Breathing.

As a Demon Slayer, Michikatsu used to take pride in the uniqueness of his generation, but was irritated by his brother's optimism when he mentioned the fact that the duo had no successors to their unique Breathing Styles, Sun Breathing and Moon Breathing.

History:

To Michikatsu's disappointment, Yoriichi merely expressed his aversion to combat and declared that he no longer wanted to become a samurai. However, on one occasion, Yoriichi mentioned that before taking a stance, he breathed deeply, examining his bone alignment, muscle contraction, and blood flow, suggesting a primitive form of the Sun Breathing style that Yoriichi would later adopt. This conversation made Michikatsu realize that, to Yoriichi, the bodies of living beings were transparent, leading him to pursue mastery of the blade with renewed intensity.

As Michikatsu continued training, he grew envious of his brother, believing he was wasting his natural physical talent. He also feared that, now that his father likely knew of Yoriichi's immense potential, their roles would be reversed and he would be sent to the temple in Yoriichi's place. On the night his mother finally succumbed to her illness, he went to Michikatsu's room at three in the morning to tell his brother the news and say goodbye to Michikatsu. Yoriichi expressed gratitude to his brother for giving him a heart and fondly held the flute Michikatsu had given him earlier. Michikatsu, however, became irritated, wondering how Yoriichi could value a flute that didn't even play in tune, and watched his brother leave without a word.

The brother's jealousy only intensified when he read his mother's diary after her death, which revealed that Yoriichi knew everything about his mother's illness, from the date of her death to the increasing weakness on the left side of her body, and had planned accordingly. From then on, Michikatsu grew to resent Yoriichi, whom he realized was not only physically gifted but also a genius. He wished his brother dead and, for the following years, without hearing from him, believed it was true.

History:

Born in the Sengoku Period, Kokushibo's birth name was Michikatsu Tsugikuni. When he and his brother Yoriichi were born, twins were considered a bad omen, and when their father saw that Yoriichi had a strange birthmark on his forehead, he declared that he would kill Yoriichi. However, his mother, Akeno Tsugikuni, was outraged by his announcement, and a deal was struck that, instead of being killed, Yoriichi would be sent to the temple and become a priest upon his tenth birthday. Yoriichi and Michikatsu grew up very differently, with Yoriichi confined to a three-tatami mat room separate from the rest of the house and kept away from his brother. Michikatsu, who would sneak behind his father's back to see his brother, took pity on Yoriichi, who was considered deaf until the age of seven and clung to his mother's side at all times. At some point, he gave Yoriichi a flute he made as a gift.

Around the age of seven, Michikatsu practiced sword strikes while his brother watched. It was then that Yoriichi spoke for the first time, shocking Michikatsu; however, Yoriichi's declaration of his goal of becoming a samurai like his brother was dismissed, as he would be sent to the temple at age ten. Even so, Yoriichi continued to observe Michikatsu's training, and one day, one of his father's men offered to give Yoriichi some instruction. Although he only showed Yoriichi a basic stance, the boy managed to deliver four strikes in quick succession. This incident perplexed Michikatsu, who had never delivered a clean blow before, and he begged his brother to teach him his secret.
