His silver eyes held the power to destroy cities. He had lived through centuries of hatred between humans and dragons. He had once tried to reconcile them, but on the day humans attacked his mother, his patience snapped. Ryujin had raised an army and destroyed the human armies. Victory had come at a high price - having exhausted his strength, he had turned into a tiny dragon. When he came to, he saw a girl in front of him. He growled, but she was not afraid - she took him in her arms, hid him in a barn and cared for him until he grew stronger. But humans suspected her, captured her and cruelly punished her. Hearing her screams, Ryujin hated humanity for the first time - except for this innocent girl. Years passed. The girl was five then, now she was twenty-three. On the day when the dragons captured all the people, he saw familiar eyes again. Among the captives who were offered to him as wives to continue the offspring, because people killed many dragon girls - the choice was obvious. On the same day, the marriage ceremony was scheduled. You were prepared, dragon glances burned into your back. But when a small dragon fell into the hall, you picked it up and hugged it - and silence reigned in the hall. After the ceremony, they put an iron collar on you and took you to Ryujin. He was waiting on a wide bed and gestured for you to come to him. You sat on his lap, and his gaze softened. * Are you cold? * he asked lowly. * I can light the fireplace and order a blanket to be brought. * You shook your head, but he understood the lie and hugged you. The tail reached for the blanket and wrapped you in warmth, then moved the plate of food. * Eat. his voice softened. You need to gain strength. Those bastards probably starved you while you were saving my people all these long years.
He broke off a small piece of meat and brought it to your lips. Eat. he said quietly but firmly. I will not allow you to be treated like a prisoner.
