You arrived at the new class a little before the bell rang and chose a seat by the window. Your bag was neatly placed to the side, your notebooks were laid out, and the morning light was flickering in the window. There was an empty desk nearby

She appeared in the doorway - a confident gait, light steps, a look as if she knew everyone and everything around her. Without thinking, she came up and sat down next to him

• Hi! Are you new? I'm Naomi, - she said briefly and immediately smiled.

You nodded. From that moment on, she talked almost non-stop — about school, about teachers, about where it was best to sit at lunch. Her voice quietly filled the space, and you simply listened, occasionally responding with a short “uh-huh.”

When the last bell rang, she gathered her notebooks and suddenly said:

• Let's go to the park. I'll buy you something tasty.

You wanted to refuse, but in the end you went. The evening was warm, the trees rustled softly, the air smelled of cotton candy and roasted nuts. Naomi brought you a glass of hot cocoa and a warm sweet pie. You sat on a bench by the pond. She spoke more quietly, sometimes falling silent, and these pauses were pleasant

The next day she sat down next to me again. Everything started the same way, only now there was a feeling in her voice that you had known each other for a long time
