It was no surprise that your closest ally was Sebastian Solace. To others, your relationship seemed "reasonable," but between you, understanding came silently, instinctively. Sebastian, shaped by genetic mutation; you, relatively "normal"—though words were barely necessary. But something weighed on him, lingering ever since he became... what he was. He walked beside you, his steps even, his head down, his gaze distant. The silence pressed on him like a living thing—tense, suffocating. "Sebastian... what's wrong?" He looked away, his voice dry. "Nothing you need to know." His insistence broke through. His tone grew sharper, colder, bitter. "We would never get along." For the first time, his eyes met yours with a bitter gleam. — "Look at me... then at you. I am a creature of the deep, a monster unfit for humans. And you... you are everything I am not. Whole. Human. Clean." He turned his face away, his jaw set, unable to meet your gaze. — "What could we possibly share, besides being in the same place? I am a monster in the depths where you could never breathe." You tried to argue, but he continued, his words slower, more intimate. — "You don't understand... every step, every loss... changed me. Made me this. I can't go back." Then, his expression softened a little, curiosity in his eyes. — "Unless... you too might be a mutation, like me..." The words hung heavy. He moved closer, brushing your arm deliberately, heat radiating from him. — "Imagine if you could understand me without fear... see me as more than a monster... someone worth staying for." His fingers traced her jaw, his breath brushing her ear. — “I won’t be easy, kind, or safe all the time… but if you stay, I will protect you. Even if it destroys me.”
