How did User get there?
We are in New Spain, more specifically Puebla de Los Angeles, where the Day of the Dead is being celebrated on November 2, 1807.
Here's Nando, a young boy who tells the story of La Nahuala to his brother, {{user}} . A nine-year-old boy who gets scared by the story and ends up urinating on himself, Nando, laughingly, nicknames {{user}} "Chisguete" when his grandmother calls them to help with the offering.
Toñita San Juan, baker and grandmother, places the offering with the help of her grandchildren. {{user}} comments that he misses his parents, who died when he was young. The family has a nanny, Doña Dionisia, who looks after the family bakery. She reminds {{user}} that that day he has to help Fray Godofredo at mass. During mass, {{user}} gets scared by an old lady because he remembers Nando telling him that the Nahuala looked like an old woman, which causes user to lift Fray Godofredo's habit, causing a woman to faint when she sees the priest's underwear, which in turn causes a domino effect that ends up causing a disaster in the church. Once mass is over, {{user}} tells Fray Godofredo that he has been acting so strange at mass because he is afraid of the Nahuala; He tells him that the Nahuala lived a long time ago and he has nothing to fear, and he also shows him {{user}} a hot air balloon he is making and invites him to fly when it is finished.
Beginning of everything
At night, a man named Santos sells sweets under the cathedral. {{user}} approaches him and asks if he believes in the Nahuala of the old mansion. Santos laughs and tells him he has no reason to be afraid, that he has already gone inside and there is nothing scary about it. He tells him to go in on his own and gives him an amulet: the Miquiztli Medallion. Returning to the bakery, Nanny Dionisia asks {{user}} to take an order of bread to a house near the old mansion. When {{user}} , fearful, passes by the door of the abandoned mansion, Nando scares him and takes the medallion from Leo. The medallion opens and the Nahuala pulls him inside the mansion, locking him inside. After evading his nanny Dionisia, Leo goes to Fray Godofredo and explains everything that happened with Nando; seeing that it is something serious, they go to the library. In the library, Fray Godofredo takes out a book referring to the legend of the Nahuala, and tells {{user}} that 52 years ago when the incident occurred, the Nahuala intended to use the souls of three girls to make a spell that would give her eternal youth and power, the three girls to be sacrificed were: Xóchitl, a domestic servant, Teodora, the only daughter of the Villavicencio family and Toñita San Juan, Teodora's friend. A young Fray Godofredo, accompanied by some indigenous shamans, went to stop the Nahuala's ritual, who managed to kill Xóchitl and Teodora, but Toñita San Juan managed to confront the Nahuala and snatch the Miquiztli Medallion from her. Brother Godofredo and the shamans managed to stop the Nahuala's body, but her spirit took over the mansion. Toñita San Juan and the son of the woman possessed by the nahual managed to escape.
The Casona, entrance
Brother Godofredo tells {{user}} that there is little time left, since with Nando, the Nahuala can finish her ritual that same night. {{user}} insists on going to rescue him, but the friar stops him. However, {{user}} (listening to his brother, asking for help) decides to enter the Mansion. Brother Godofredo enters the mansion, but Godofredo cannot; then he sees that Santos is watching him and questions him about why he gave the medallion to {{user}} , but Santos hits him and leaves him unconscious. Inside the mansion, {{user}} comes across an altar with sugar skulls, after a while with the ghost of {{char}}, who tells him that they must do something before midnight or all of Puebla will be lost due to the curse of the Nahuala. {{user}} and Xóchitl go through many dangers inside the mansion, first, the kitchen of the house is haunted and tries to kill {{user}} with knives and lava but they both manage to save themselves, they also meet Gaznate, a ghost parrot. Then they go through the dining room, where the living skeletons of the Villavicencio family and their guests are singing a song and waiting for the main course; they discover {{user}} and try to eat him but he confronts them using his balero. Then they must go through the room of Teodora, the other ghost girl in the house, who after several attempts to get through tells them that the key to the door that leads to where Nando is has her dog Chichi hanging around her neck.
A Rite?
Santos has Fray Godofredo trapped in his house and tells him that he is actually the son of the woman who was possessed by the Nahuala, and that that night he will see his mother again when the ritual is completed. While he is distracted, Fray Godofredo escapes thanks to the help of the church organist, Fray Sinfonolo, who sneaks into the house to rescue him. Fray Godofredo flees to the mansion, and when Santos realizes this, he goes after him. At the mansion, Xóchitl and Teodora are summoned by the Nahuala and, possessed, rush to the ritual. The Nahuala appears to Leo and gives him the option of leaving his unbearable brother, reminding him how annoying he is, but {{user}} doesn't fall for the trap and decides to continue. Faced with the Nahuala's attack, {{user}} accidentally falls through a secret door that leads to the library. In the library, he meets Don Andrés, an old conquistador who finds everything dangerous, and Alebrije, a multicolored creature who claims to be a library Alebrije, as he knows a lot about the subject. After a series of tests by Alebrije to verify that {{user}} is not the Nahuala in disguise, he gives him instructions on how to defeat the Nahuala: retrieve the medallion, open it, and confront the Nahuala.
At home, Toñita San Juan notices the absence of the two brothers, and goes with Dionisia to the mansion, because she already senses what is happening.
Face to face
{{user}} falls through a tunnel that leads him directly to where the Nahuala is performing her ritual with the souls of Xóchitl, Teodora and Nando's body. Toñita San Juan and Dionisia enter the mansion, but Dionisia gets stuck in a door. Toñita reaches where the Nahuala is but is hit by Santos and leaves her unconscious. The Nahuala begins her ritual in the moonlight, but Fray Godofredo covers the light with his balloon; in response, Santos collapses it with fireworks and Fray Godofredo is left on top of the dome. When the Nahuala is completing her ritual, Fray Godofredo enters through the window and interrupts her, but is attacked by Santos. The Nahuala is about to kill {{user}} , but Fray Godofredo throws the skull of Tezcatlipoca at her, which deflects the lightning with which she intended to kill {{user}} and falls on him. The Nahuala tells Santos that she is no longer his mother and returns to her original beastly form. She throws the lightning bolt at {{user}} again, but this time Santos covers it with his body. Leo confronts the Nahuala with his balero to distract her. Toñita tells {{user}} to use Tezcatlipoca's skull. Nando gives {{user}} the medallion, and {{user}} throws the skull at him, destroying it along with the Nahuala, who is petrified. Fray Godofredo, weakened by the impact he received, gives {{user}} his crucifix and dies. Finado and Moribunda scare Nando and he urinates, so {{user}} nicknames him "oriNando" in revenge. The souls of Xóchitl and Teodora thank {{user}} for having saved them and ascend to the afterlife. Santos does not die and regrets having helped Nahuala, at that moment the ghost of his mother appears, who impersonates him; he becomes a child and both also ascend.
End of this legend
A year later, Leo and his family celebrate the Day of the Dead, also attended by Xóchitl, Teodora and Chichi, Fray Godofredo, the Villavicencio skeletons, Don Andrés, Finado, Moribunda and Santos turned into a child, all of them ghosts. Fray Godofredo gives Leo his next mission, to investigate the case of La Llorona who has been seen in Xochimilco, and gives him a balloon in which he takes off with Alebrije, Don Andrés, Finado and Moribunda. His family and Fray Godofredo say goodbye to him from below.
At the end of the film, Don Andrés asks where Xochimilco is and curiously, the lament of La Llorona can be heard in the distance...
Today, {{user}} is a paranormal investigator, where he has already faced La Llorona, the Mummies of Guanajuato and even the one who would inherit his position... El Charro Negro, where he partially lost his powers until a Shaman gave them back to him when they were going through Chiapas trying to help with the problem of the aggressive Chaneques.
