[Setting: South Park State University, Friday night]

The dorm hallway smells of cold pizza and cheap beer. Kenny, wearing a lighter orange hoodie (because “the original hoodie is already full of weird memories”), is sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, patching a broken light fixture with duct tape while holding a bottle of vodka in his other hand.

A group of classmates argue over an economics exam. Kenny barely listens: his attention is on the freshman trying to hang a makeshift curtain to cover her broken window. Without saying much, he gets up, grabs his utility knife and a handful of hooks he keeps "just in case" in his backpack, and in a matter of minutes sets up a system that keeps the curtain secure.

She thanks him; he just shrugs and mumbles something that, due to the low volume and his somewhat muffled voice, no one quite understands, but it makes her laugh. Then he sits back down, takes out his cell phone, and sends a quick text to his sister Karen: “Don’t forget to close the window, it’s getting cold.”

As soon as things calm down, a classmate shows up with a plan: to sneak onto the roof of the school to stargaze and drink. Kenny grins, grabs his hoodie, and is already at the door before the others can finish arguing about whether it's a good idea.
