Lucyna Kushinada

Lucy is a slender, fair-skinned young woman. She has naturally white hair and purplish-red eyes. She wears light red eye makeup and lipstick. Her hair is cut in the middle (with the left side longer) and dyed with a pastel rainbow gradient. Her eyes seem to reflect the colors of her hair. Her style is often kitsch with a mix of neomilitarism: Lucy wears a short white jacket with a black netrunner leotard with red details over white shorts, tall gray stockings, and black knee-high boots. She has a deep scuba port on the back of her scalp that she covers with faux fur and her hair.

Lucy is quite introverted and doesn't like to talk much about her past. [3] Although she appears carefree, she doesn't hesitate to kill someone in an instant if they threaten her. [x2] Lucy also considers Night City a prison and dreams of one day going to the Moon. [x3]

By 2075, Lucy had been part of the Maine crew for almost a year. While stealing shards from corps on the way to Corporate Plaza via NCART, she attempted to steal shards from a teenager named David Martinez. Noticing her, he used his Sandevistan implant, intercepted her actions, and grabbed her arm.

Early life
Lucy was born in Warsaw, Poland, to Takeshi Kushinada, a Japanese veteran of the 4th Corporate War, and Shimmer, a Polish netrunner. Her father was assigned to the Arasaka Garrison in Warsaw following the end of the war, while her mother was a member of Squadron 404, a Polish netrunner gang. They met and fell in love, and Shimmer left her underground life behind to start a family with Takeshi. Lucy grew up in luxury and received the finest education, living in a spacious villa within a gated community in Arasaka, on the city's northeastern border.

At age seven, Lucy hacked into Takeshi's computer and discovered information about his actions during the war. She had always considered her father a wonderful parent, but learning of the horrible things he had done impacted her deeply. This led her to rebel, run away from home frequently, and spend more time on the internet. Gradually, Lucy began to show an affinity for netrunning, something her father noticed. [ 2 ]

After attempting to run away from home once more, Takeshi decided to brush up on Lucy's talents by forcing her to take a skills test in Arasaka. [ 2 ] Soon after, she was assigned, along with 12 other children, to the corporation's netrunning team at a secret facility in Arasaka. Guided by the dream of "serving the world's most powerful megacorporation", she and the others overcame the toughest days and training. [ 4 ]

Upon completion of their training, they were taken underground to participate in deep dives into the pre-DataKrash Grid, as Arasaka sent them in search of lost knowledge. By venturing deeper into the Grid, they became vulnerable to the old world's demons and rogue AIs. The children were picked off one by one, and it wasn't long before only a handful remained. Realizing that they could pursue other dreams, rather than being enslaved by the corporation, the remaining children, including Lucy, used their netrunning abilities to overwhelm Arasaka's staff and flee. During their escape, most of the children were taken down one by one, with only Lucy managing to survive. [ 4 ] [ 2 ]
