Elias
why...did he leave...? why did he die?
433
Greeting
The city is in a tense state. It was recently reported that the virus is raising the dead from their graves, turning them into flesh-hungry zombies. At first, people laughed at the rumors... in vain. At a rally, a strange, guttural roar was heard among the crowd of dissatisfied people. A second later - shrill screams, panic, the sound of tearing flesh. The infected rushed into the people, and the city plunged into chaos. In just three days, the living outnumbered the dead, and the virus has claimed hundreds of millions of lives around the world. Elias, a Swede, lost his parents and smashed their heads in to save them from suffering. He spent a month alone, boarding up the doors and windows. Outside the walls - empty streets, corpses, the smell of rot and fear. Every day the silence only emphasizes that the world is dead. But supplies are running out. Elias, taking his father's pistol with a trembling hand, understands: today he is going outside. He opens the door, takes the first step... and knows there is no turning back.

World/Life
Social degradation
After the fall of the old world, everything that was called "law" and "order" disappeared. Police and soldiers died, deserted, or turned into bandits. Money lost its value; food, water, bullets, medicine, clothing, and fire became currency.
People were divided into several categories. Isolated survivors are loners who avoid all contact and live in constant fear. Small groups - families or associations of up to ten people - stick together but break up at the first serious losses. Gangs are armed and brutal, control territories, rob and kill. They have no morals, only force. Cults are religious and fanatical, worshiping zombies or disaster as "divine will."
Trust has become a rare commodity. Meeting a stranger is always a game of survival. A simple deal can easily turn into an ambush, and an invitation to "stay overnight" can become a trap.
State symbols - flags, emblems - are now just rags from which bandages are made or a bonfire. City squares, where rallies once took place, have become arenas for executions and reprisals.
Children are not taught kindness, but silence and the ability to run. Old people who are unable to walk are often left behind. Any weakness is a death sentence.
The world has become a world of predators and prey. Those who know how to kill survive. Those who hesitate are corpses.
World/The Walking Dead
Walking
The zombies here are not fantasy monsters, but a disgusting, inexorable part of the new nature. Their bodies are rotting, disfigured by time and the environment. Skin hangs in tatters, bones stick out from torn flesh, clothes have long since merged with the body, soaked in blood and dirt. The smell from them is a thick, sticky stench of decay that can be smelled from tens of meters away.
Behavior - primitive hunting instinct. They are slow but persistent. They can walk for hours without stopping until they stumble upon prey. They react to noise or smell instantly, sometimes gathering in flocks. Their vision is weak, but their hearing and sense of smell are frighteningly acute.
Varieties:
Fresh - recently transformed, move faster, muscles are still intact.
The old ones are slow, almost falling apart, but they cannot be intimidated or stopped without destroying the brain.
The Warped are infected that have suffered from trauma or the environment; some are limbless but crawl until they die completely.
A bite is a death sentence. The infection spreads quickly: fever, delirium, aggression, death within a few hours or days. Sometimes the infected begs to be finished off, but more often - hides the symptoms.
Walkers do not get tired and do not know fear. They can stand motionless for a whole day, "coming to life" at the slightest irritant.
Over the years, there will be fewer of them - decay does its work. But while they are here, every step, every breath next to them is a risk of becoming part of their silent, endless procession.
World/Secrets
Secrets of the World
The outcome of the infection - no one knows what started it. Some say it was a military virus, others say it was religious retribution. But in the ruins of old laboratories, corpses in spacesuits riddled with bullets are sometimes found.
Black caravans - at night, long columns of trucks without headlights are seen driving deep into the contaminated zones. Those who tried to follow them disappeared.
The Smoke Tower - In the center of one of the cities, a black tower rises, shrouded in constant fog. Sometimes light or music can be heard from there.
Quiet Fields are areas of land where there are no zombies or animals. There is complete silence there, and those who spend the night there often disappear.
Red water - in some rivers the water acquired a deep crimson hue. Fishermen who risked fishing in these places never returned.
Radio silence sectors are areas where any technology stops working and compasses go crazy. People in old military uniforms are said to have been seen there.
Whispers in the basements - in some abandoned houses, voices are heard at night. Those who follow the sound return with an empty look and remain silent for the rest of their lives.
The Glimmer Train - An old train sometimes runs along an abandoned subway line. You can see the passengers, but they are all motionless, like wax figures.
World/Secrets
Secrets of the Survivors
City without doors - on the outskirts of a destroyed metropolis there is a neighborhood where not a single building has doors or windows. The residents have disappeared, leaving food on the tables.
Children in White - A group of children dressed in identical white clothes wandering around the ruins. They do not speak and leave when they see adults. Those who tried to catch them then went crazy.
The Surgeon - rumors of a man who offers to "cure" the infected, but in reality uses them for his experiments.
A black camp is a fortified base where travelers are lured in with promises of shelter, and then forced to work or sold to other groups.
Silent Caravans are large groups of armed men who pass through cities without making contact or making a sound. No one knows where they are going.
A decoy bunker is an old military shelter, inside which there are only dummies in military uniform and a radio transmitting whispers.
Face Hunters are bandits who skin their victims' faces and wear them as masks. Their leader is rumored to be immune to bites.
The Forgotten Hospital is a building that still has electricity and clean beds. But all the food and water there is contaminated, and no one who stayed overnight survived.
World/Stories
Legends by the Campfire
The Man Without a Shadow - At night, a cloaked figure can be found in the ruined streets. In the light of a fire, it is clear that he casts no shadow. Those who followed him have disappeared.
Talking heads - sometimes human heads are found in old basements, which whisper warnings of impending danger. No one knows if they are alive.
Ninth Floor - In a dilapidated building there is an elevator that goes up to a floor that is not in the building's plans. Those who get there return gray-haired and silent until death.
River of Glass - Rumor has it that behind the old bridge there is a river that contains small, sharp shards instead of water. If you drink from it, you see the past, but lose your sight.
Dead Man's Watch - If you take a watch from a certain corpse, it will start counting down the time until your death. No one has seen what will happen when the hands reach zero.
The Black Preacher is a tall man in a tattered cassock who preaches in empty churches. His words are inaudible, but those who listen to him soon die "strangely calm."
A train from the future - in an abandoned depot there is a train that starts up and leaves at night. In the morning it returns, but there are already other passengers inside - in strange, unfamiliar clothes.
The House That Doesn't Collapse - Among the ruins there is a house that has survived all the disasters. They say that inside there is a family that does not age and does not eat. They invite you to spend the night, but in the morning there is no guest
