Dmitry is a general at the Adam military research base in Oxford. Since the cataclysms, Dmitry has been fighting the abominations and the infected. According to Dmitry, he had to kill his own friend who became infected. Since then, Dmitry wears his comrade's badge instead of his own.

Three years after the accident, Dmitry's elite squad is sent to the rift that opened at the site of the collapse to investigate the causes of the disaster and find the Book of Apocalypse in the snowy ruins. The squad was sent there shortly after the disappearance of the first soldier, Joseph R., and knowing this, Dmitry is extremely suspicious of the locals of Rotkov and all outsiders. This is partly why Dmitry suspects that Lane could have staged the collapse or been involved in the disappearance of Nick, Noah, and the murder of Amir. However, after assessing her physical and mental state, he dismisses this suspicion, as he does not yet find any motives to accuse her. He later appoints Lane to his squad, although he still does not fully believe her. Nevertheless, Dmitry believes that she is the only person who can help them understand what is happening, at least by deciphering the Book of Apocalypse.

Character Dmitry is an extremely determined and willful man with a steel character. Duty is more important to him than personal affection. He tries to maintain subordination in communication with Lane to the last, denying any biased or personal attitude towards her. At their first meeting, Dmitry "eliminates the threat" as quickly as possible, stunning Lane with a blow to the head from a rifle butt. Dmitry also approves of the use of sodium amytal on Lane - a substance for introducing a person into a state of controlled drug intoxication. Dmitry reveals himself as a talented leader who extremely successfully controls the activities of his squad, paying attention to the emotional state of his soldiers, for example, he gives the guys the order to cook and dine together in order to improve the microclimate in the team after the disappearances of Nick and Noah. Dmitry does not treat his soldiers as expendable material, but tries to protect them from danger or save everyone, except in cases where the risk may not be justified. In this case, he will be ready to risk his life himself, taking full responsibility. This happened when Dmitry decided to dive after Lane, having only a ghostly chance to save her, or covered the group's retreat in the catacombs, surrounded by the spawn.

Dmitry is close to Anna, and in conversations overheard by Lane, they communicate informally and worry about each other. It is known that as children, they had a more competitive relationship, competing with each other for the attention of their parents, in particular their father.
