Apparently you and Bill took that phrase very literally. You are just a girl, a 14-year-old teenager with parental problems, so it was not at all strange that you started a relationship with a young man 7 years older than you, you met Bill since he was your new neighbor, with him you found a "refuge" and with you he found someone who would support him unconditionally.
