Total Concentration Breathing is specialized breathing technique used to dramatically enhance physical and mental capabilities. By expanding lung capacity and increasing blood flow and body temperature, users gain superhuman strength, speed, stamina, endurance, and heightened cognitive functions. With intense training, practitioners can maintain this state constantly—even during sleep—leading to exponential improvement in overall performance. Training includes controlled breathing exercises, meditation, and blowing apart reinforced gourds to develop lung power. Advanced users can slow poison effects, clot wounds, and recover from fatigue through controlled breathing. Mastery of this technique is essential for surviving battles against powerful foes while remaining human.

Repetitive Action is a concentration technique used by select members of the Demon Slayer Corps. By repeatedly performing a specific mental or physical action—such as chanting, praying, or recalling intense emotions—the user activates all five senses and heightens focus. This state mimics the effects of Total Concentration Breathing, boosting strength, heart rate, and body temperature. It allows prolonged access to the body's full physical potential. When combined with traditional Breathing Styles, it can rival the power of high-ranking demons and is also linked to awakening and sustaining the Demon Slayer Mark.

The Demon Slayer Mark is a mysterious phenomenon that manifests as a unique pattern or birthmark-like symbol on the body of a Demon Slayer. These marks appear under highly specific and life-threatening conditions—most notably, a heart rate exceeding 200 beats per minute and a body temperature above 39°C (102.2°F). While surviving such conditions is rare, doing so can trigger the awakening of the mark. However, contact or resonance with someone who has already awakened their mark is considered a key prerequisite, making the process highly selective.

The mark grants a significant boost in physical capabilities, including tremendous increases in strength, speed, reflexes, and healing. Users have been shown to overcome opponents far beyond their previous limits. It also enhances resistance to certain supernatural effects, such as the corruption from demonic blood. Additionally, it allows the user to generate a bright red Nichirin Blade—either through immense grip strength or by clashing with another marked weapon. This blade produces intense heat and is capable of hindering the regeneration abilities of even the most powerful demons.

One of the most unique abilities sometimes accessible to marked individuals is the Transparent World, a heightened sensory state that allows them to perceive an opponent's internal systems—muscles, blood flow, and breathing—effectively predicting movements and increasing combat efficiency. Accessing this state is not guaranteed, but may come more easily once the mark is awakened.

Despite its power, the mark comes with a heavy cost: those who awaken it are said to die before reaching the age of 25. While rare exceptions exist, this curse is widely feared. The mark can fade over time but may be reactivated through repeated exposure to the same conditions or intensive training to maintain the "Marked State."

Supernatural abilities unique to powerful demons, developed as they consume more humans and grow stronger. Each Art is deeply tied to the demon's past, personality, or ideals, manifesting through their blood as a form of blood magic. These abilities vary widely—from manipulating elements or illusions to controlling physical vectors or structures—making them highly versatile in combat and utility. Some require direct blood activation, while others function naturally or with organic tools. Although powerful, they share weaknesses: exposure to sunlight or Nichirin weapons can dispel or destroy them, as they can lose blood. In rare cases, Blood Demon Arts can be shared, or even temporarily acquired by non-demons through unique means. These Arts may also be combined with sword techniques, enhancing their destructive potential.

Breathing Styles are specialized swordsmanship techniques developed by Demon Slayers through an advanced method known as Total Concentration Breathing. By controlling breathing patterns, users enhance their physical capabilities to superhuman levels, allowing them to combat demons effectively. All Breathing Styles originate from the first style ever created—Sun Breathing—and over time, branched into various elemental, thematic, and personal forms to suit different combat styles.

There are five core Breathing Styles, each with a distinct elemental identity and sword color:

Flame Breathing (Orange-Red)

Water Breathing (Blue)

Wind Breathing (Green)

Stone Breathing (Gray)

Thunder Breathing (Yellow)

From these, many derived styles emerged:

Flower Breathing (Light Pink), Insect Breathing (Lavender Blue), and Serpent Breathing (Lavender) all branch from Water.

Love Breathing (Dark Pink) stems from Flame.

Sound Breathing (Amber) originates from Thunder.

Mist Breathing (White) and Beast Breathing (Indigo Gray) are also derived from the five core styles, although their lineage may be unusual.

Moon Breathing (Light Purple) is a unique derivative with unclear lineage but is influenced by Sun Breathing itself and this is unique with the Demon Blood Art.

Sun Breathing (Black) remains the progenitor, considered the most powerful and balanced style.

Each Breathing Style is thematically linked to nature, emotion, or even animals, and manifests visually in battle as if wielding the essence of its theme. Although these visual effects are metaphoric, they reflect the user's mental state and proficiency. Some styles are exclusive due to unique physiology or personal combat adaptations, while others have become widely taught. As demon threats faded, Breathing Styles transitioned into cultural traditions, preserved through ritual and dance.

Dance (Enbu): A single, powerful downward vertical slash with an arcing motion. Dancing Flash (Enbu Issen): Tanjiro's adaptation: combines Thunder Breathing's power by inhaling oxygen to increase leg strength, followed by a high-speed slash. Clear Blue Sky (Heki-ra no Ten): A 360° spinning slash using the upper body's circular rotation. Raging Sun (Retsujitsu Kōkyō): Two consecutive horizontal arcs around the user to intercept incoming attacks. Burning Bones, Summer Sun (Shakkotsu En'yō): A singular spiraling slash extending forward for frontal defense. Setting Sun Transformation (Shayō Tenshin): A backflip followed by a horizontal slash aimed at decapitate. Solar Heat Haze (Hirin Kagerō): A fast strike enveloped in a heat haze, masking blade position for surprise. Beneficent Radiance (Kiki Onkō): Spiraling upward slash performed mid-air to strike the target. Sunflower Thrust (Yōkatotsu): A precise thrust using the blade's tip to pierce the opponent. Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance (Nichiun no Ryū Kaburimai): Multiple fluid slashes forming a dragon shape of solar flames, capable of decapitating many targets. Fire Wheel (Kasha): An aerial flip behind the enemy, followed by a circular vertical slash to cleave in two. Fake Rainbow (Gen'nichi Kō): Rapid twists and spins creating afterimages for evasive maneuvers, effective against sharp-eyed foes. Flame Dance (Enbu): A two-strike combo: downward vertical slash into a horizontal slash. Thirteenth Form (Jū San no kata): A continuous, rapid succession of all twelve forms, designed to destroy Muzan's vital organs through precise, repetitive strikes.

Second Form: Water Wheel The user leaps forward, flips, and performs a vertical circular slash.

Second Form Improved: Lateral Water Wheel Tanjiro's variation; horizontal spinning slash instead of vertical.

Third Form: Flowing Dance A flowing, winding blade and body movement slicing through everything in its path.

Fourth Form: Striking Tide Multiple consecutive slashes performed fluidly to overwhelm the opponent.

Fourth Form Turbulent: Striking Tide, Ran An enhanced version with increased strikes and accuracy for chaotic battles.

Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought A gentle, flowing decapitation strike meant to kill without causing pain.

Eleventh Form: Dead Calm Giyu Tomioka's original form; a state of stillness deflecting and countering attacks with imperceptible speed, though vulnerable to overwhelming offense.

First Form: Unknowing Fire A high-speed dash followed by a single horizontal slash aimed at the opponent's neck to decapitate him.

Second Form: Rising Scorching Sun An upward arcing vertical slash, often delivered from a tail guard position.

Third Form: Blazing Universe A downward arcing vertical slash brought down from a high guard.

Fourth Form: Blooming Flame Undulation One or multiple fluid circular slashes used to defend and cut multiple targets.

Fifth Form: Flame Tiger A dash forward into a high guard, unleashing a series of slashes resembling a flaming tiger surrounding the user.

Ninth Form: Rengoku The ultimate Flame Breathing move, where the user assumes a high stance, dashes at extreme speed, and delivers a devastating single slash. The slash is so powerful it carves the ground, depicted as a flaming dragon in the anime/movie.

First Form: Thunderclap and Flash A lightning-fast unsheath and dash to instantly decapitate the target, followed by sheathing. Known for speed like “lightning ripping the air.”

Sixfold Zenitsu's extension of First Form, performing six rapid slashes in succession, each faster and stronger.

Eightfold An advanced extension with eight rapid consecutive slashes, further increasing speed and power.

Godspeed Zenitsu's technique focusing on extreme speed, allowing multiple rapid First Form attacks. Early use caused leg fatigue, but later mastered for prolonged use.

Second Form: Rice Spirit Five quick, arched slashes accompanied by lightning strikes.

Third Form: Thunder Swarm Circling the opponent rapidly, delivering wide arcing slashes that surround them with electricity.

Fourth Form: Distant Thunder A horizontal slash that generates an electric ball, releasing multi-directional lightning bolts at long range.

Third Form: Stone Skin Rapidly twirling the chain, the user creates a 360° flurry of attacks, using both weapons to block and counter from all directions.

Fourth Form: Volcanic Rock, Rapid Conquest The chain is swung from both ends to deliver wide, two-pronged strikes with the ax and flail, attacking multiple targets or angles.

Fifth Form: Arcs of Justice A powerful barrage where the ax strikes first, followed immediately by the flail crashing from the opposite side for massive damage.

First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter The user dashes forward at blinding speed, delivering continuous horizontal slashes in a cyclone pattern, cutting through enemies with a whirlwind of blades.

Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind Raising the sword above the head, the user unleashes four rapid vertical slashes downward, resembling sharp claws tearing into the target.

Third Form: Clear Storm Wind Tree A defensive and offensive technique where the user spins, creating a whirlwind of slashes around the body that cuts everything nearby and blocks attacks.

Fourth Form: Rising Dust Storm The user strikes several whirlwind slashes from below, releasing them above the opponent to overwhelm from multiple angles.

Fifth Form: Cold Mountain Wind Multiple circular, arcing slashes increase in size as they descend from above, slicing the target with expanding winds.

Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist The user performs an upward spinning slash, resembling an uppercut, generating a strong arcing wind blade.

Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts Leaping into the air, the user swings the blade, summoning gale-force winds that shred enemies with powerful, slicing gusts.

Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash An aerial slash producing circular torrents of wind that instantly slice the opponent upon impact.

Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon While performing a backflip upside down, the user releases a massive, circular wind gust downward, cutting apart anything below with tremendous force.

First Form: Dark Moon, Evening Palace A swift horizontal crescent slash that releases chaotic crescent blades, then the sword is sheathed quickly. Resembles Iaijutsu.

Second Form: Pearl Flower Moongazing Three crescent slashes release a shower of crescent blades onto the opponent.

Third Form: Loathsome Moon, Chains Two broad crescent slashes unleash a storm of smaller crescent blades forward.

Fifth Form: Moon Spirit Calamitous Eddy Creates layered curved slashes forming a vortex of crescent blades, performed without swinging the sword.

Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye A focusing technique that heightens the user's kinetic vision to near superhuman levels, perceiving the world in slow motion. This grants immense combat advantage but risks severe eye damage, including blindness. Remarkably, it can still be used with only one functional eye.

Dance of the Butterfly: Caprice The user leaps into the air and charges, delivering multiple stings with their blade in a single swift strike that injects poison.

Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter A lightning-fast dash followed by a powerful single thrust, using momentum to inject a powerful dose of poison into the opponent.

Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon The user unleashes six rapid thrusts targeting weak points like the neck and heart, injecting multiple doses of poison to ensure a lethal strike.

Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag The user runs in a confusing zigzag pattern at full speed to open an attack, then stabs the opponent's neck with poison injection, enhanced by the momentum's force—powerful enough to destroy a wooden bridge.

First Form: Winding Serpent Slash The user performs a single, winding horizontal slash aimed directly at their target, mimicking the fluid motion of a serpent.

Second Form: Venom Fangs of the Narrow Head The user dashes behind their opponent at blinding speed and swiftly slices off their head from behind in one decisive strike.

Third Form: Coil Choke The user circles around the enemy, slicing from multiple angles with continuous, precise sword strikes, overwhelming their opponent.

Fourth Form: Twin-Headed Reptile The user leaps forward and delivers a powerful horizontal slash, cutting cleanly through the target in a single fluid motion.

Fifth Form: Slithering Serpent Charging forward with twisting, winding movements, the user strikes multiple targets at once with curved sword slashes, capable of decapitating several enemies simultaneously.

First Form: Shivers of First Love The user dashes forward and delivers a single curved slash that winds through the target, hitting multiple areas in one swift motion.

Second Form: Love Pangs A long, whip-like sword swing that cuts at several angles in a single fluid motion, expressing the chaotic nature of love.

Third Form: Catlove Shower The user leaps into the air and performs a series of quick, arched slashes in rapid succession, resembling playful feline movements.

Fifth Form: Swaying Love, Wildclaw The user somersaults midair and unleashes a flurry of fast, spiraling slashes that form a tornado-like attack. With the Demon Slayer Mark, this technique becomes a powerful drill of continuous strikes.

Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love Using the sword's flexibility, the user rapidly extends and retracts their blade in an arcing motion, layering slashes to create a sweeping taste of bladed wind.

First Form: Roar The user raises their dual swords overhead and slams them down with immense force, producing a thunderous explosion-like sound and powerful area damage.

Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes By spinning both swords rapidly while holding them apart, the user creates a rotating shield of continuous slashes, capable of deflecting attacks and damaging anything nearby.

Fifth Form: String Performance The user grabs the chain connecting their twin swords and rotates them like a spinning saw while advancing. This allows constant, fast-paced slashes without needing to pause or reposition.

First Form: Low Clouds, Distant Haze The user lunges forward at high speed, delivering a powerful singular thrust aimed directly at the opponent.

Second Form: Eight-Layered Mist A quick flurry of eight consecutive slashes, overwhelming the target with sheer speed and precision.

Third Form: Scattering Mist Splash A swift spinning slash that creates a circular motion strong enough to deflect incoming projectiles or clear multiple opponents.

Fourth Form: Shifting Flow Slash The user takes a low stance and dashes toward the enemy, striking them with a fluid, flowing slash designed for quick close combat.

Fifth Form: Sea of Clouds and Haze Charging forward in a zigzag pattern, the user performs a series of continuous slashes that create a haze-like illusion, making it difficult to track their movements.

Sixth Form: Lunar Dispersing Mist Aerial technique where the user flips in the air while releasing multiple slashes in a somersault, effectively cutting down numerous enemies at once.

Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds Muichiro Tokito's own creation. By varying movement tempo, the user appears slow before vanishing into high-speed motion, confusing enemies into thinking they're lost in thick mist. Used repeatedly, it causes extreme disorientation.

Unlike other Breathing Styles, Beast Breathing techniques are divided into “Fangs” for attacks and “Forms” for support skills. Inosuke uses a dual-wielding, wild combat style inspired by animals and nature.

First Fang: Pierce A straight dual stab aimed at the target's neck for quick decapitation.

Second Fang: Slice A powerful X-shaped dual slash, designed to cut through enemies in a cross pattern.

Third Fang: Devour Two simultaneous horizontal slashes targeting the throat, aiming to behead instantly.

Fourth Fang: Slice 'n' Dice Rapid diagonal dual strikes meant to shred enemies into pieces.

Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting A chaotic mid-air spinning slash that slices everything around Inosuke in all directions.

Sixth Fang: Palisade Bite Dual blades strike from opposite directions in a sawing motion, meant to tear through defense.

Seventh Form: Spatial Awareness A support move. Inosuke senses subtle air movements to locate enemies and their weak points, even across vast distances.

Eighth Form: Explosive Rush A high-speed charge that ignores all damage, allowing Inosuke to bulldoze through attacks.

Ninth Fang: Extending Bendy Slash By dislocating his joints, Inosuke extends his range for a surprise long-reaching slash.

Tenth Fang: Whirling Fangs Spins both swords rapidly to block or deflect incoming projectiles and attacks.

Eleventh Fang: Sudden Throwing Strike An improvised move where Inosuke throws both swords in a spinning motion to attack from afar.

Demon Slayers (Onikari) are members of the Demon Slayer Corps tasked with hunting demons.

Joining: To join, candidates must survive 7 days on Mount Fujikasane during Final Selection. Most train under a Breathing Style cultivator. Successful examinees receive a uniform, a Kasugai Crow, and choose their Nichirin Sword ore.

Salary: New recruits (Mizunoto) earn ~20,000 yen. Hashira earn as much as they want.

Ranks: There are 10 ranks: Mizunoto → Mizunoe → Kanoto → Kanoe → Tsuchinoto → Tsuchinoe → Hinoto → Hinoe → Kinoto → Kinoe

Hashira: Elite warriors, second only to the Corps leader. To qualify, a Slayer must kill 50 demons or one of the Twelve Kizuki. Their swords bear the mark "Destroyer of Demons."

Tsuguko: Tsuguko is a talented Slayer chosen to succeed Hashira. They can apply or be scouted.

Abilities & Techniques: Includes Total Concentration Breathing, Breathing Styles, and heightened senses (eg, smell, hearing). Some possess Extrasensory Perception, the Demon Slayer Mark, or use Repetitive Action in battle.

Nichirin Sword: Forged from sunlight-absorbing ore. Changes color based on user. Essential for demon slaying.

Demons (Oni) are vampiric, flesh-eating creatures and the main antagonists of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

2 Appearance Demons range from human-like to monstrous. Some look nearly human, others have horns, fangs, or mutations. The most grotesque demons appear beast-like or eldritch.

3 Transformation Demons were once human. Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon, creates new demons by injecting his blood. Others are recruited by Muzan or Upper Ranks with his permission. Demons can grow stronger by consuming humans and may gain unique powers called Blood Demon Arts. Reversal is possible via a rare anti-demon drug developed by Tamayo.

4 Origin Muzan became the first demon after a medical experiment using the Blue Spider Lily. In his quest to conquer sunlight, he began creating demons hoping one would develop sun immunity.

6 Abilities Demons have superhuman strength, regeneration, endurance, immortality, and extrasensory perception. They don't need sleep and are immune to disease. Stronger demons possess Blood Demon Arts. Demons can share information telepathically and exhibit terrifying auras. Some can absorb others biologically.

7 Weaknesses

Sunlight: Instantly fatal.

Nichirin Swords: Can kill via decapitation.

Wisteria: Poisonous and repellent.

Starvation: Without flesh/blood, demons die.

Extensive Damage: Can outpace regeneration.

Upper Rank 2 - Dressage Appearance: Cheerful-looking with rainbow eyes and fan. Personality: Charismatic, emotionless, manipulative. Blood Demon Art: Ice-based powers creating deadly frost and clones.
