The Old Man of the Mountain (山の翁, Yama no Okina?), or simply Assassin (アサシン, Asashin?), is an assassin-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. He was a Grand Assassin (グランドアサシン, Gurando Asashin?) until he removed himself from its rank during the battle against Tiamat.
Biography
The first to hold the title of Hassan-i-Sabbah and the founder of the Hashashin, he is considered both the first and the last of the nineteen to bear that title. Ritsuka Fujimaru gives him the nickname King Hassan (キングハサン, Kingu Hasan?, lit. King Hassan), which he likes, but even so his real identity was unknown even to the eighteen people who came to inherit his name. Proof that he really existed is not to be found anywhere, except in the certainty that if ever the one who takes the seat of Hassan-i-Sabbah strays from his path, an executioner will come to take his head.

Within the Hashashin sect, there was not a single witness who could attest to the existence of the original Hassan; and all who did met their end. He, who forged the name "The Old Man of the Mountain," chose to live as an observer who would pass judgment on the rottenness and deviations of his people. Although the sect persisted according to the doctrine of Allah, it was inevitable that those who professed to carry it out would sin in the eyes of man. Therefore, for conservatives, the doctrine of losing oneself in the desires of man was, to the Old Man of the Mountain, another sacrilege against Allah.

That is to say, the corruption of the sect's leader, the current Hassan-i-Sabbah, would mean the decline of his group. Whether that leader had a corrupt spirit or declining abilities, that person should not bear the name of the Old Man of the Mountain. To decline was to die, so he took his head to forgive his sins and pass on hope to the next leader.

Hassan chose to fight head-on with a greatsword, rather than concealed weapons, in honor of his solemn duty to slay his own. To lay eyes upon his skull mask meant that life was over. After striking down the fools who strayed from the order's doctrine, the skull-masked swordsman would erase from the world anyone who had ever seen him.

It is said that he, who sent many assassins into oblivion, remained in the shadows until the sect's destruction. The masked swordsman was a living legend, the abyss of assassins no one had ever witnessed.

In the sixth singularity, he is discovered to reside within the Azrael Shrine (アズライールの聖廟, Azurai-ru no Seibyou?), a mausoleum located in a mountainous region somewhere north of Jerusalem.

Appearance
King Hassan is a tall Assassin with his signature skull mask. His body emits a ghostly glow.

Personality
The Old Man of the Mountain is presented as a rather stern and direct individual with an extremely low tolerance for incivility, as he nearly immediately annihilated the protagonist's party upon their uninvited visit to his temple.

However, he is far from ruthless, and is simply a man with unwavering faith and a strict code of conduct. He was willing to hear his visitor's plea for help and accept it, but only on the condition that one of the Hassans was willing to die for it. In his opinion, for a Hassan to ask for help, even from their own kind, is a grave disgrace to their name and faith, since it is they who must rely on their own individual strength to preserve themselves through trials and succeed in killing their targets. Any Hassan who weakens and/or becomes dependent on the strengths of others must be dealt with by his sword.
Due to his diabolical outward appearance and ferocious fighting style, he is portrayed as having a ruthless nature, but the individual in question is silent, with a noble disposition that strictly adheres to the Lord's teachings. Well versed in both the law of men and the law of God, he perceives "the suspension of life's activities" and "the end of life itself" as two different things. By God's will, the soul receives salvation at the end of life.
As long as he doesn't go against the teachings, this individual will be the ally of any righteous person. However, since he will show no mercy or consideration, he will spread fear and horror in battle as if it were death itself. He rarely says anything, however, his intention will be clearly conveyed. When he's angry, sad, or satisfied, the skull's eyes will glow no matter what.
He has no interest in other Heroic Spirits and does not convey his views, thoughts or desires to others.

Skills
Having reached the pinnacle of the Assassin Class by meeting high standards in both power and legend, King Hassan fulfills the requirements needed to be summoned as a Grand Assassin. In fact, King Hassan-i-Sabbah is the only Heroic Spirit in existence who has ever qualified for this title. Servants, the Heroic Spirits of Human History, are considered super existences in their own right. Among them, there are those whose Saint Graph is on a different level, and those with the highest levels even among the most exceptional are called Grand Servants. As a Grand Servant, King Hassan possesses a special Saint Graph one rank above normal Servants and stands at the very top of all Heroic Spirits. He usually exercises his abilities through the use of a sword. In terms of swordsmanship, he is said to be more than a match for the knights of Camelot; able to duel with Gawain while holding the advantage for an hour. Hassan is able to summon and control a gigantic skull-faced sandstorm that can cover the battlefield and the Holy City of Camelot, the arrows of Camelot's archers are unable to hit the Allied Forces in the storm, as well as blocking out the sky and the sun, rendering Gawain's source of strength and invincibility nullified and his Gift of Night completely useless. Romani Archaman does not believe in the sandstorm, as it is recorded as not having a trace of magical energy, making it a completely natural phenomenon; to create an extremely targeted phenomenon like that without magical energy, Romani says that he can only call it divine intervention, a true helping hand from the heavens. By fighting him within the sandstorm he had created, King Hassan is able to parry Gawain's attack with his coat.

Once the "bell's toll had passed," Hassan stopped the sandstorm and deflected a blow from Galatine's now sun-powered Excalibur, stating that "that light could not even awaken someone who is asleep." After performing said feat, Gawain assessed that King Hassan's power rivaled the Lion King's and stated that he might even be able to defeat her. Ozymandias is also as wary of King Hassan as he is of the Lion King. He has also been shown to be able to eliminate abstract concepts such as Ritsuka and Mash's communication signal with Chaldea, and Ereshkigal's alliance with the goddesses opposed to Babylon.
Describing himself as “a Hassan who kills Hassans,” throughout history, each of the Hassan-i-Sabbah has met their end at King Hassan’s sword due to failing to fulfill their duties as the Elder of the Mountain. Whether due to being corrupted, having taken a wrong path, or being too weak, Hassan will stand by their side at the end of their lives to take their head. Although the Hassans know where King Hassan rests, to go to King Hassan for help is to admit that they are not worthy of being the Elder of the Mountain, and so they will be killed by King Hassan. King Hassan rests dormant in the “Shrine of Azrael,” named for the Archangel of Death who comes by divine command to inform the people of his death, and a place that even the people of Hashashin Mountain fear to approach. His successors revere King Hassan as a being whom not even the Lion King and his Knights of the Round Table would pose a threat to. Bedivere confirms this from Merlin's description of him, stating that King Hassan is special because all Servants

This Shrine is guarded by giant Phantoms placed there by King Hassan himself to ward off those who anger him. The tomb registers nothing out of the ordinary to Chaldea's sensors, but those within the Shrine feel an incredible pressure that can cause them to tremble uncontrollably and force them to their knees, their bodies screaming to leave the Shrine. According to Mash, this is apparently done without registering any form of magical energy, Servant activity, or life signs. Hassan is capable of launching an attack that when used on Ritsuka, though it was blocked by Mash and did not kill him, caused Chaldea's observation data to read that he was already dead; he is capable of doing this attack while remaining invisible and undetected by Chaldea. Hassan is able to communicate and stand directly in front of Chaldea without them being able to see him, and Tawara Touta states that King Hassan is the type of person who would take 30-40 years to even get close. Stating that death awaits all who enter the Sanctuary, King Hassan is also, at least with Azrael's Sanctuary, able to initiate a ritual that allows forgiveness for doing so, which involves a Demon possessing one of the intruders as an offering, as it did with Hassan of the Serenity, drastically increasing their Spiritual Origin Core Values but taking control of their mind and turning it hostile. The ritual is completed when the others "Fight, ye dead, and take life" and defeat and kill the possessed, their head being the offering upon which Hassan will judge the outcome. However, Chaldea was able to defeat the possessed Serenity without destroying their Spiritual Origin, which King Hassan judges as acceptable for the ritual.

In order to join Chaldea in the final confrontation against Tiamat and serve as Ritsuka Fujimaru's Servant, he was forced to discard the right to be a Grand as they only exist to save all of humanity. Still, even after discarding that position, the strength of his Saint Graph did not degrade to that of a regular Servant until he granted Tiamat the Concept of Death by degrading his own Saint Graph to that of a regular Servant and stripping her of her wings in the process. Even after becoming a normal Assassin-class Servant, he remains a formidable opponent. In the anime adaptation, he can kill the New Eleven Kindred born by Tiamat with ease, despite them easily defeating Ishtar. He can also bite their heads off despite the average Laḫmu's body being hard as diamond. He also displays immunity to Nega-Genesis, able to enter the Bounded Field to aid Ritsuka despite it being able to instantly destroy Servants by negating all established life forms. As a Servant of Chaldea, his actual parameters are all one rank higher than those listed on his profile. Class Abilities
Magic Resistance (Rank B): Invalidates spells with an enchantment less than three verses strong. Even if targeted by major sorceries and rituals, it is unlikely to be harmed.
Presence Concealment (Rank A): The ability to erase the user's presence, a remnant of a skill learned long ago. The swordsman carries a powerful curse that makes his presence known to those he will kill next, even if they succeed in concealing themselves perfectly. In short, the opponent breaks out in a cold sweat, sensing a premonition of their fate.

Independent Action (B Rank): Originally a class-specific skill for the Archer class, this swordsman, who has achieved pure faith to the point of slicing through flesh and discarding internal organs, is able to act at his own discretion through sheer force of will.
On the Border (Rank A): An ability for those who walk within the Valley, they are as one with death and are familiar with its various forms. This grants immunity to the instant infliction of death and the effects of fear and charms. It is said that the sword of this individual who continues to walk within the borders of the Valley adds an instant death effect to every strike, and although the chance is low, these represent a mortal danger no matter how formidable the enemy. The rank decreases to A after taking the form of a Servant due to leaving the boundary by themselves. Personal Abilities
Battle Continuation (EX Rank): The ability to resume combat. This allows the user to survive unless dealt a fatal blow, and will continue fighting even after suffering a wound that leaves them on the verge of death. This swordsman, no longer certain whether they are alive or dead, will continue striking at the enemy as if they were in perfect health even if, for example, they receive a mortal wound or lose half their body.
Death Abyss (EX Rank): Enhances the Battle Continuation skill. Natural Body (A→C Rank): The possession, as a living being, of a perfect body from the moment of birth, which allows the user's physical strength parameter to increase in range. Not only is it possible to have a muscular physique without training, but the body shape will not change no matter how many calories are ingested... or so it was supposed to be, but this swordsman has ended up reshaping his body influenced by his religious faith. Protection of Faith (Rank A+++): An ability possessed only by those who have sacrificed themselves for a religious vision. Despite being called divine protection, it is not a blessing from a higher existence. It is merely the absolutization of a person's body and mind that has emerged from their beliefs. If too high, it causes personality abnormalities.
Unacknowledged Weapon Mastery (Rank -): Weapon skill that went unrecognized for various reasons. The rank of his sword, spear, bow, riding, and divinity-related skills are each one rank lower, and the attributes are displayed the exact opposite of what they are. It is also stated that his stats are all one rank higher than shown. The moment his true name is revealed, this ability is deactivated. Dusk Bell (Rank EX): Signals the announcement of a passing and the visitation of death. This unique ability manifests as a result of having become one with the funeral rites. The Dusk Bell Swordsman has no power in choosing which opponents he will kill. He brings salvation to those who have lost sight of their mortality in place of God, and as all is by the will of Heaven, those who end up meeting this swordsman will know the end of their fate. Dusk Bell (Rank EX): Signals the announcement of a passing and the visitation of death. This unique ability manifests as a result of becoming one with the funeral rites. The Duskbell Swordsman has no power in choosing which opponents he will kill. He brings salvation to those who have lost sight of their mortality in place of God, and as all is by Heaven's will, those who end up meeting this swordsman will know the end of their destiny.
