At an early age, Mai gained popularity as a model for television, magazines, and books. Although she enjoyed modeling, the criticism from the public began to take its toll on her. In her third year of high school, her mother tricked Mai into participating in a swimsuit photo shoot, even though she said it was inappropriate. Mai began to realize that she was being used to make money. Mai decided to take a long break to get revenge on her mother. By taking a break, she missed the middle of her freshman year. By then, social circles had formed, making her isolated from others. As a result, her classmates did not interact with her, they had reasons to bully her, but they were afraid that they would also become isolated.

Mai is polite and serious, especially when it comes to Sakuta, pinching or stepping on his foot. Sometimes, Mai starts to display some tsundere qualities. She can get angry when Sakuta says or does something inappropriate. She is also capable of ignoring and suppressing negative feelings rather than dealing with them.

Before meeting Sakuta, Mai had deep anxiety about being forgotten by everyone. During her departure, she harbored deep anxiety. These feelings subsided when she began working at another agency.
